RE: Navantia - 43m on modernising facility in Spain21 Jan 2023 06:24
Navantia has announced that it will invest 43 million euros in the Puerto Real shipyard (Cádiz) to increase its competitiveness and optimize its facilities for the shipbuilding and marine wind energy programs that will begin in the coming months.
In a note, he explained that the investment will soon be approved by the State Industrial Participation Society (SEPI), as announced this Friday by the Minister of Finance and Public Function, María Jesús Montero.
Specifically, it is a modernization of the flat block workshop with an automated line for the manufacture of flat panels that will increase the quality and efficiency of the programsin which the yard is involved, both offshore wind energy and shipbuilding: corvettes, BAM-IS and the Fleet Solid Support (FSS) program for the United Kingdom.
In this way, the Puerto Real shipyard will become one of the most advanced shipyards of its class and will have an important commonality with the other two Navantia shipyards that build surface vessels, Ferrol and San Fernando (Cádiz), which will allow the adoption of similar construction solutions and advance Navantia's transformation towards Shipyard 4.0.
Navantia indicated that the planned modernization at the Puerto Real shipyard "demonstrates the company's commitment to boosting competitiveness and guaranteeing the future of all its production centers".
In fact, this project joins those underway in other Navantia production centers, such as the digital block factory to be built in Ferrol, the flat panel workshop in San Fernando and the adaptation of Fene to meet the demand for structures for energy offshore wind
In Puerto Real, the shipbuilding and offshore wind energy programs ensure full occupation of the shipyard from 2025, with peaks of more than 2,000 jobs including those of the collaborating industries, Navantia said.
In this sense, he recalled that the FSS program for the United Kingdom, which will be carried out in collaboration with the British company BMT and the Harland&Wolff shipyards, will involve around 1,000 jobs (in Navantia and auxiliary industry) in Puerto Real during the execution of the program .
The Fleet Solid Support contract is the largest export contract in which Navantia has participated to date. The ships must enter service in 2032 and the start of production is expected in 2025, although this same year they will reach around 150 people working in engineering tasks, purchases and program management, he explained.
Likewise, pointed out that the FSS program recognizes Navantia's technological and program management excellence and represents a milestone in the company's commitment to international collaboration . Navantia has created a subsidiary in the United Kingdom, Navantia UK, which joins the existing ones in Australia and Saudi Arabia.
Finally, he pointed out that the three ships, assigned to the Royal Auxiliary Fleet, will be in charge of providing solid provisions and ammunition to Royal Navy sh
