There was a time when if the economy fared well, wealth was distributed more equally among society as a whole. Today, wealth is distributed amongst the elite and the gap grows ever wider between rich and poor. That isn't good for society.

Ultimately it won't even be good for the elite. Their space rockets won't save them.
