Morning CR888, we know from RNS they are working at near normal. We know also they have $400M in cash and cash equivalent and a $500M credit line with non-sanctioned banks and were cutting back on Capex. Enough to last 12 months without near normal production. There will be a peace deal long before that and hopefully something tangible in the next few days and weeks. Lavrov says "substantial progress" out the last talks and so lets see what emerges.

Putins threat to cut off the gas supply unless people pay in roubles when you actually digest it is a situation which won't happen.

The BBC News explained this during the afternoon and there is a mechanism in place for the consumers or countries to still pay in their own respective currency into one bank account at Gazprombank who then transfer and convert it into Roubles. The accounts are referred to as s K type accounts.

"A Kremlin decree published today sets out that contracts will be stopped if buyers do not sign up to the new conditions, including opening rouble accounts in Russian banks. The buyers can still pay in foreign currency and authorise the bank to sell that for roubles, which are placed in the second account, where the gas is formally purchased. "

1. There is also potentially a breach in contract law if the contracts stipulate payments in $ and Euros.

2. You also can't simply turn off the tap on flowing gas. You either have to have storage facilities to place it in (which Russia hasn't got sufficient of), or you have to divert it elsewhere and the pipelines don't exist to do that

Putins last incursion into Crimea in 2014 lasted 2 months (Feb and March). This "special operation" into Ukraine isn't going to plan (Disaster) and he is having to scale back his ambitions to the East and with MASSIVE unforeseen economic and financial sanctions hitting them from about 140 countries.
