It was set up (for shareholders?) around the start of the year for discussion and keeping people in the loop - I just wondered if they know something we do not - ie. bit strange to forecast 5 deals by December unless the poster has heard a whisper! Anyway I DO expect another deal this year - maybe there will be a nice surprise..

Most news from come from the AE blog - not from the company although I guess on Britdaq they cannot RNS at 7 am like most companies? You got free shares (unless you became a new shareholder) so better than other shareholders in liquidation companies - but agree, get a second deal done first before predicting 4-5 deals in the next 3-4 months! It's been six months roughly since the first deal/listing so few here will know the time frame..
Also remember, any larger deal will have to be funded as Whetstone cash pile must be around £400k gl

Spay1, not an odd post at all .. personally I don't go around the threads saying "hey, look at me.. I got more shares and now have close to 100,000 in x company".. it's boosting and it's not as if Whetstone has done much so far. If it goes well - great. However if nothing of any substance happens here - I bet they would not come back on here to admit they made a mistake - indeed some refuse to even admit Worthington MIGHT have been a big mistake - only some sold out before suspension - including myself but I learnt a lesson - dyor and don't get carried away by any hype - especially BEFORE corporate action happens. As for my investments - I hold quite a few AIM shares thank you GOLD..

I have used this method but if you think about it logically, if you are going to the shop to collect, you might as well but the item there anyway and avoid waiting to sign paperwork or for a member of staff to take 5-10 minutes to find your item. I am speaking from experience bere..

I doubt Mike Ashley will be considering a merger for a few months yet .. all his focus will be on turning HoF around as the company continues to be loss making. At a later date he may look at options .. especially as SPD holds 30% of Debenhams. As for the share price .. it is probably oversold .. and a bounce back nearer to 20p is possible. Remember though that Debenhams is not out of the woods .. the results and trading update due in October will be key as to whether we are in recovery mode or whether the share price will fall back again

I don't think it's that simple.. of course if a share is shorted - the shorters will lose out from a higher share price. However all current shareholders benefit from a higher share price. Of course some will sell at a higher price than others - than the ones who "lose" with a higher share price are surely the investors acquiring the shares at a higher price? BTW i don't want people to lose money but posters should be entitled to say when they think a share price is ahead of events gla

Sorry but the majority of medium to large retailers are now completing with Amazon .. not just Debenhams! Amazon are also considering moving into food retail - so supermarket chains will be next. (the sooner a tax is put on their UK based sales the better)

I understand. But Whetstone assets do not include a holding in GSC. What GSC values Whetstone at is up to GSC. (perhaps using NAV of their asset might be helpful). Whetstone assets are a) cash b) RAP .. and that is what matters to Whetstone shareholders. GS, welcome back. The key word is "guess". So prove me wrong. Are you sure no one posts here unconnected to the company? Really??

You guys do realise you can get into BIG trouble posting misleading or incorrect information? So tell me were I am wrong.
GSC hold Whetstone shares - ok... so the value of Whetstone shares obviously effects the value on the GSC balance sheet - fine.
However, how many GSC shares does Whetstone hold? I thought their only assets were cash and the RAP investment.
It's like saying Mike Ashley holds x number of Debenhams shares. The Debenhams value effects Sports Direct. However it has no impact on Debenhams - except that there is a major shareholder called Sports Direct - catch my drift now?
Of course though - I guess some of the rampy posters are insiders who hold shares in both Whetstone and GSC .. so it is in THEIR interest to push the Whetstone price up. Fine .. but be honest and I am sure no Whetstone shareholder will be complaining..

Never heard such ramping in my life.. who cares what a shareholder of Whetstone is worth. GSC is not Whetstone. It is a shareholder. Lets get real.. the ASSETS of Whetstone are a) cash held and b) the RAP investment. Total value unknown but likely to be 1-2p. If you had to realised the cash and RAP investment .. this is what you would end up with .. (excluding the cash burn).. whether there is various accounting counter party stuff going on is another matter and maybe somehow a share swap might add value to Whetstone. However it does not take away the fact of the true value of Whetstone assets - however much the share price is valued at.. (which is a very significant premium to NAV)

BTW the growth of one company does not always result in another company shrinking.. ie. if the food sector goes up 5% year on year and one company sales improve while the other companies sales flat line .. the market share will change. It depends on whether sector revenue is increasing. Of course you are right in some circumstances but with employment at record highs - I guess most companies have grown over the last decade = at different rates

Pokerchips - I deal with my company pension scheme - we do not short. We do however use f/x hedges - interest rate and RPI swaps .. so I can only speak from experience and presume some pension schemes do actually short shares. If you only deal with known facts presented to you .. you cannot make assumptions that "all" pension schemes short - not by my own experience. Any way so are so off topic it is untrue. I don't short and never will - that's the end of the discussion. If Last Call has the time to trade in shares and also short shares - good luck to him - I am not going to repeat again and again that I believe it is "better" to invest in growth. Debenhams have been shorted to dead - so the question is whether to short now .. or to hold a current shorting position. I personally would not .. but Debenhams is in a dire state so some will see profit in continuing to short

BTW Hepran - 37p to 13p means a swing the other way will be 61p next £1. With a NAV of a penny - if it gets to £1 without any new deal - it will be the most grossly over valued share .. ever!

Fonters, facts are thin on the grounds - and as for closed minds - pot, kettle, black springs to mind. Hepran - I invest almost 100% in AIM shares - I simply cannot recall any share moving more than 50% on a single trade - please provide examples. Of course when the P&D crew arrive .. a share can treble in a very short space of time (as we recall with Worthington)

When you buy a share .. you do so because you see value and/or upside. You see a company that has been oversold or has a revenue pipeline or is in recovery. At the moment I would not short Debenhams even if I wanted to .. 30-40p was the time to short ... however it is also a risky buy .. recovery is not a cert. Surely it is better to be in an investment that grows - it's how our pension funds pay our pensions (!). We are all trying to make money - but I feel it is more moral to want a company to grow and succeed than for a company to fail or to see a share price drop - except in the cases were a share has been pumped and is way over valued..

Very busy here today .. lots of new posters (again).. of course there is one recent negative .. the shocking drop in the share price .. which was OTT to say the least .. we need to ask the day traders to target other companies .. this is and has always been a medium/long term investment!!
