Re the sale and leasebacks .. did this happen when the company was taken private? IMO it appears they left the company in a worse state when relisting as they were interested in creaming off as much cash/profit as possible - so perhaps the current management cannot be blamed 100% for the current situation - I did expect a RNS this morning - just to calm the market.. although the share price reaction is not as bad as it could have been... re CVA .. it will be tempting but no guarantee the landlords will play ball .. they must be getting fed up of the queue of retailers going down this route ...

No RNS yet.. maybe they are waiting for the "reason or no reason for share price movement" later today?

shellymarie1985, no it's not game over .. their investment has a value and there is still cash in the bank.. as for lack of news - who knows - an update will help but note most here are in it for the long term - there has been no selling of note - hopefully you will get news soon..

Good comments today - posters are not so emotional on this thread than elsewhere.. as for tomorrow - if the company releases a "calming" RNS detailing the plans and options available - and perhaps an update on year end profits/outlook - then hopefully the share price will hold above 10p. However no RNS or a murky RNS update, then I have to agree with others that single figures will be on the cards. What MA thinks about all of this as the 30% shareholder will be good to know - the asset sale has to happen soon imho ...

It's not new information that companies - especially in retail - employ outside consultants like KPMG and other audit companies - to review their structure and financial status to work on a turnaround plan and how to cut costs (why the companies themselves do not do this - i have no idea) - indeed at this very moment - its probably that a number of retailers have consultants looking to assist them with dealing with the poor high street trading situation ..

Dan - maybe another twitter p&d? Perhaps someone does not want this company to delst? Who knows.. interesting developments though... considering the drop close to 1p just a few days ago..

How soon is soon? Monday.. later next week? Later next month? Agree - the company continues to dodge accurate info on dates etc.

Whatever you guys say - at the very least we have seen quite a few RNSs and new partnerships and developments by the company over the last 3-6 months - no one can say the company is not now being pro-active. Whether it bears fruit remains to be seen .. re Argentina - not the first time the currency has devalued and probably not the last - I would focus on India and elsewhere imho

Guys - you did read the last RNS? This company wants to delist!!! Of course no guarantee it will get its way but I personally do not want to be left holding the baby (so no idea why the share price is rising - stake building?).
Of course - continue to trade pre meeting but I am not going to take a chance on D Day that the vote goes against the company .. so buy if you want...but remember to sell/reduce as well by meeting day imho

Interesting debate .. I rather wait for the RNS from the company .. surely it will be tomorrow? TBH the wait has been concerning .. so I for one do not hold a material amount here - just too risky atm .. maybe after news the risks will reduce ... who knows!

QueenElvis, click and collect is obviously a growth area for retailers - I have used this service but hate the waiting as the staff go looking for my parcel .. and since I am in the store to collect the item - I might as well buy in store in the first place (imo). Re Cupid - i had forgotten about this share - what ever happen to this company - delist/go bust? You must be talking about 4-5 years ago! Maybe, but rent and business rates continue to increase significantly year on year plus the living wage etc. have increased overheads.. you are right about the supermarkets - they must sell many products with low margins to increase footfall ..

Not a gread trading update - seems like shareholders will have to wait a while longer for any share price recovery.. cash now £3.3 million .. a lot now depends on the turnaround plans due with the next results

Martin1, you do read the threads? Yes there are 1-2 posters on the various BB threads posting constant negative links and comments against Debenhams - you are right .. almost definitely shorters. However, there are also boiler room gangs who pump shares causing spikes who then dump their shares without saying leaving small investors trapped (the ones who were encouraged to buy in - with or without a RNS to justify the rise) .. both extremes are dreadful.. it takes time being on LSE and other websites to work out who these posters are and whether a sudden 50% rise or fall is due to the company or due to the rampers/derampers. There are risks with Debenhams but also great recovery potential - until the situation becomes clearer you are still going to have shorters posting here

Also if there is Whetstone news - isn't it about time it appears on the Whetstone website first? The AE blog has served its purpose - future updates really should relate to TI action and Worthington related news - Whetstone news s/b issued directly by the company imho

mannnan - there were a number and I don't think it's fair I name them - go back 7-8 pages and you will see the comments .. as this thread has never been that active. Back 6-12 months ago there was a twitter P&D on this share and talk that the assets were really worth 65p (the figure i recall).. and I got constant abuse online here and elsewhere for saying it was a ramp and misleading and just plain wrong!! Look at what happen - the asset was sold and whether the balance sheet has improved or not - the company wants to delist... so although i have held the shares on and off for short term trading and expected a bounce post asset sale - these guys obviously left the building and can't (as normal) be bothered to come back on here to admit .. they got it wrong!

Treasures - good point - if there is any spare cash (which i doubt before any disposals) then buy back the bonds at a discount or look at restructuring the leases even if it means an up front payment. If the company cannot afford the dividend .. it will not be able to afford any buy backs either. The Capex reduction can also only be a short term fix. Retail companies need to spend money on their stores to modernise them etc. - look at the lack of investment with BHS - customers do not like shopping in dark old stores .. proper lighting and a modern feel is essential. Some Debenhams stores are new and look modern - others do not. Hopefully when the final results are released the company will provide an updated recovery plan for shareholders to consider. At 12p a rights issue looks out of the question imho

Sorry, when like for like sales are still falling.. when profits have fallen.. when the debt is substantial and the loans could be called in is profits fell further to £20 million - the LAST thing the company will consider is a share buy back!! Perhaps if they manage to realise £200 million from asset sales but not before. The best short term solution will be to cut by 50% the final dividend - it will however probably be cancelled imho. Until the trading improves we can forget about buy backs and decent dividends sorry. I am still fairly bullish over the longer term but we cannot rule out a further set back first. The share price looks about right in my view gla

Remember that this time of year a lot of overseas students/tourist visit the country and are more likely to visit the high street shops than go online .. the high street isn't dead - just changing. We still need sandwiches, haircuts, food and most of us still like to view items in store. As for the CFO salary - seems a bit high but we have heard how Director pay has soared over the last few years - her package is probably on a par with any similar size company - good time to get options with the share price so low (presuming recovery)
