Reckon it's more to do with the retail sector rather than individual companies. The insurance companies are reducing their cover/exposure period. eg. Arcadia has no debt - net cash so seems more to do with struggling sector

Btw no one is -20% down if they don't sell. It's an inrealised loss..depends on when you sell..or buy. Strange that you must think CLP is a buy... just at a slightly lower price..

Well you usually get them at 4.30pm market close - I presume it means trades are being settled and the live price may not be correct for a short while. With Bonmarche - it might be down to the unusual trading volume this morning and number of trades - hence a hold on the live price.
BTW I doubt the share price will be north of £1 again this year - one to monitor imho

No chance? You really should say that this is your opinion - not a fact... as for the gift card .. WH Smith stocks various retailer gift cards - they do not stock every retailer gift card.. I guess if other chains or supermarkets stopped selling Debenhams gift cards we might have a problem. Who gets gift cards at WH Smith any way? The Chairman stated the financial position was fine this morning - either he is not telling the truth or is he being honest that the worse is over - lets wait and see..

Also small shareholders probably do not like their shares delisted .. let visible - less likely to hear news - and cash flow and prospects will still be poor any way... isn't there a value attached to a market listing to consider too?

Not sure who you are referring to - but I have no position here atm and will never short a share. I try to be balanced in my posts acknowledging positives and negatives - I expect a gradual recovery. However the share price fall over the last 1-2 years has not been a laughing matter!!!

Agree - I wouldn't say having £320 million of debt is a strong financial position - although there is headroom re the debt facilities - perhaps he thinks the worse is over because any further drop in profits will not help - I recall if profits drop to £20 million then the banks can start talks to recall the loans or alter terms - these words may come back to haunt him..

I don't think we should see the lack of recent director buys as a big negative. There are various examples of directors buying but within a few months their company gets into financial trouble or there is a profits warning. It's not a guarantee signal of success nor when there is a sirector sale should you also bail out. However post results I do hope some of the directors buy the shares. Maybe with decent salaries and share options they feel they don't need to invest as well? Final point, every day there is a list of director trades - the numbers are not great so let's not single out Debenhams.. Director trades across the market are not actually that common now imho

Oldtimer, SPD acquired their shares at a far higher price .. around 50-60p so are probably in it for the long term .. whether they have been trying to force the share price down for their own gains is up to the authorities to work out. However the share price is at this level due to a number of profits warnings - falling profits - the retail climate - and rising debt - and the lease issue. So in the SHORT TERM sorry but the company is simply not worth 50-60p and no one will bid this high - i just cannot see it. Maybe in 1-2 years time it may be the case if the turnaround plan is working. Think about it another way - why has there not already been a bid? The company is on its knees (well that's what the shorters/media are saying) so you would think an offer would have been in the works by now imho

Mulder, (sorry I keep thinking of the X Files) re your two posts 1) well if the FCA is not investigating the trading pattern of Debenhams over the last 3-6 months - it should and 2) I sightly disagree with your takeover price as Debenhams was at 12p just a few days ago. I have seen takeovers at sharp premiums.. anyway I don't think there will be a bid but if an outside company were to make a bid then SPD would counter bid imho and we will then get a bidding war - unlikely but not impossible. Therefore with EPS at 2p I think a fair price for Debenhams currently would be 15-20p. Why for a start has the Debenhams share price fallen so much more that many other retailer share prices in similar dire straits? Well... we go back to my first point... FCA!

Not sure about Debenhams, but some retailers use third parties to run their store card business. Used to be GE Capital - then Origin.. I suspect the third party decides the interest rate and I know from experience than whatever the interest base rate has been over the last decade .. my store card interest has remained at 29.9% !!

I think it's called giving an opinion. The shorters have quite a few opinions too ATM. Agree though only the company knows the score but there is no harm debating the merits or otherwise of paying a dividend. Depends on 2018/19 forecasts imhi

A token dividend at best. 0.1p to 0.5p With debt so high and no disposal in sight best to continue to cut costs Inc the dividend. No point paying a 1p dividend and then going bust a few months later - imagine the uproar. No dividend though would probably mean a further share price slide. Difficult times ahead still..

Truthfactory, I also offer an apology to you - it seems any potential here has/is being wasted and the takeover offer appears desperate from the company point of view - they should have at least cleared all the debt. It's best to admit when you get it wrong and I have here - however I will continue to monitor - just in case there is a game changer (10-20% chance imho) gl

Arsenal17 - hands up, you were right (all along). After ALL this time negotiation the sale - you would hope that at least all the debt would be cleared - now £900k remains and a rights issue will happen imho sooner rather than later.. will just watch with interest gla
