Interesting, thanks. Not sure if there is an example elsewhere of shareholders making (successful) claims against their company due to false financial statements. Maybe Luke Johnson can make a claim against himself!!

To be fair, they probably did. The auditors would have known the accounts the company used from the prior year audit file - asked the company if there were any new accounts - obviously the answer came back "no". So the question is whether the secret accounts were at the same branch or on the list to check. Also if only in use for less than a year - the banks would not had been wondering why the auditors had not asked for audit confirmations. Not making excuses as there are lessons to be learnt - ie. banks should automatically forward to auditors balance confirmations on an annual basis and ALL accounts with the company name (of course pension scheme accounts would be separate)

Well i admit i do not go to their shops that often but if you are outside London I reckon they are probably the best cake shops around - compare their cakes with Greggs.. For a birthday at work we have a gateaux cake. I agree they are not cheap but so pleased that their shops are not about to disappear.. at least hopefully the authorities will learn lessons for future corporate governance rules

DC2007 - the point is that this is not new information! The company has already confirmed by RNS that advisers are looking at varoius longer term options to ensure the company remains viable and a CVA (I recall) is one possible option they mentioned. So the only new info a further newspaper article can provide imho is that this is now confirmed as the route the company will take... no idea if legit ... but for the last few weeks shareholders trading have been made well aware of the risks here - while at the same time the company has confirmed a £33 million pre exceptional profit is expected and that we also know they wish to sell their Norwegian business. Pluses and minuses.. What bugs me is that this gets leaked on a Friday - whether true or false - the shorters are trying to force the company to issue a RNS for one reason only imho - to push the share price lower. I suspect a RNS might have to be issued today/Monday to (again!!) clarify matters

The drop today might relate to BB gossip elsewhere. Apparently a Sunday newspaper will have an article about Debenhams with the word CVA included. A couple of points 1) looks like the writer has an issue with Debenhams going by past articles 2) should anyone connected to the newspaper be posting this info on a Friday? 3) if it effects the share price isn't there the inside info point to consider? IMO the shorters are still trying to totally destroy this company with a mixture of true, half-true and false news ..

I read elsewhere that perhaps the FD was hedging against commodity prices and it went wrong ... obviously just an opinion as tbh I can't think of many ways a £20 million black hole appears in the accounts..!!

Well the financial issues in Italy will effect the entire market(s) which the poster fails to address - I am sure positive news flow here will more than offset short term Italian issues

Well the 1 code was legit.. interesting RNS however I can't see the name of the gateway provider (unless the company is actually called the "gateway provider")

Well the results are due I think soon and there has been a 1 code today - also we have seen loads of RNSs over the last few months - partnerships, agreements etc. Obviously it looks dire - but I am personally not at the point of writing this off - I don't think a company would be this pro-active if the plug was about to be pulled. I suspect another placing shortly... (however losses cannot go on forever)

Ok - fair point. Although a number of retail chains are struggling at the moment. Just seen a second RNS - apparently they have just found out that they owe over £1 million to the HMRC - obviously the FD was not doing his job...

What's the problem re opening in Debenhams out of interest? Prefer it was John Lewis?

Predators, whatever one says - the gifting of shares in Whetstone was virtually unique and small shareholders (and others...) have now got something - which is better than nothing. There were also a lot of trades before some shareholders received their gifted shares so some were more than ready to join Britdaq on day one and get in cheap. I personally still expect another deal - my issue perhaps is that some expected fireworks and massive gains overnight - I am sure the situation will become clearer before the year end gla

Interesting you mentioned Brexit (I voted to leave re the democracy deficit but lets not start an debate) as you failed to mention the financial issues that Italy are currently going though - bond yields etc. It's a batter between the elected Italian government and the EU ... totally agree that if we had simply stuck with a common market without the politics added we would not be leaving..

Incorrect - RKB has a significant holding and obviously monitors the companies house website - he has even gone to Italy on a number of occasions to view the site(s) that CLP are invested in. He posts RESEARCH - I would not call it ramping. RKB also has told the thread when he has acquired shares and when he has sold down his holding - he has been quite transparent in his trading and STILL has a significant holding. He also is willing to email holders with his research - so please do not knock him - he is not selling on the side imho. (btw RKB i am looking for your email address - not forgotten to try to get in touch). TBH what we have here are a few jealous (imo) posters who missed out on the spike - my advice - this has short/medium term upside due to expected further NAV enhancing events like court claims and disposals - up to you to join in because this should NOT really be seen as a day trading share

Banknote, stop the mischief. The conversion was for the 7% bonds which were minimal. The prior notice were for the zero bonds - a separate batch and bond date. That's how I read it. Also see the breakdown of the bonds held in the Annual Report issued in June. We will have to wait and see the ratio of these bondholders that will convert. Happy to be corrected..

I will not take any advice from someone who appears out of nowhere - and you have no idea who I am or what I know about Italy - so do not presume. I have been on LSE for seven years - on this thread for some time - so I guess I must have some idea of what is going on. Ditto RBK and Max - who definitely know more than most of us put together - so please stop "trashing" this thread thanks
