Let's hope their turnaround plans work because LFL sales are down and a profit last year has turned into a loss. Not sure it's clear how many stores they plan to maintain in their portfolio. Just proves how bad it is for retailers out there.

You might be right about Cameron. Pound down today. I will make a prediction. Labour will table a vote mid January to revoke A50. They will get at least 305 votes and could success depending on Tory rebels . Then the S will really hit the fan.. (although the markets will be happy)

The link article was dated 7th December - three days ago - if you call this history and old I dread to think what you would call articles from 2017 .. the stress tests were probably carried out over the last few months and will be revealed on Wednesday (according to the article) so lets wait and see. As for the share price - it is shorted to dead and I presume there is low free float when MA holds 30%. It probably can rise just as quickly as it has fallen - IF news and sentiment changes in the months ahead

You are right - a big blue box marked "filter" on one of the pages - do'h (for once I can laugh at myself).. to be fair - I probably have never noticed it because I can't recall using this option - not for a long time anyway.
BTW why are you laughing at Debenhams? I simply don't understand how you can find a company going though a rough patch as funny unless you work for a competitor or are shorting the share - that might make sense. Debenhams is not the only retailer going though bad times - it will not be funny to me if 100,000 people lose their jobs next year in the retail sector - but each to their own..

Hi Pearls - a couple of points to consider. 1) If the Norway business is sold then the underlying profits will be close to zero - no more than £10 million - presuming no improvement. There would still be debt £50-100 million and it's possible the LTV terms may be broken - my point being that it might a CVA more likely selling off the crown jewels. 2) Don't presume the share price will multi bag on a CVA - it's high risk and no guarantee that shareholders will still have a company listed. Some CVAs mean shareholders lose everything - others have resulted in shareholders maintaining a listing... I guess it depends on how much of the portfolio may fall under a CVA or CVAs.. I still think the company will hold off from this option - using it as a last resort maybe mid 2019 if the business environment does not improve gl

Look I think the fact that no news is expected from Debenhams until 4th January means there's a space to debate slightly off topic subjects like HoF and historic rental agreements or MA/SPD - that's fine but it's a shame really that we don't have much guidance on how Debenhams is performing NOW - an outdate was missing from the final results which was annoying and worrying... any way tea break over back to work gla ..

Can you explain how a post contents can suggest you are either male or female? Agree about year on year decline continuing. Until the declines stop then all retailers face challenging times and more will focus on their online operations ..

Can we control how many EU citizens come here under FoM every year (so we can plan probably for enough housing etc)? NO Can the ECJ over rule certain UK court judgments? I would say YES. Are many decisions/laws now made in the EU especially over trade regulations? I would say YES. If we left the CU and single market would we be able to have an UK immigration policy, make FT deals, not refer to the ECJ and start to make more laws in this country? I presume so. I am not trying to lie or say untruths - perhaps I am being suckered by all the media (mis)information but I do believe leaving the EU will give the UK at least some greater independent. That's important to ME. It was also obviously important to millions of others. Totally accept for remainers FoM and frictionless trade over rule my points. Any way I don' t wish to discuss this any more on the BT thread - I am happy to debate this on general chat. GLA we might need it..

LSE - you obviously don't mind your posts being reported... are you thick? NIGEL is a male name... at least I have provided a few reasons why I post here - you just seem to be here to annoy... maybe the filter button is an option after all..

Perhaps if we focus on the contents of a post rather than the poster involved we might have less heat here although I think we all know your position and you have done the CVA element to death over the last few weeks. If it is as bad as you say - then Debenhams will not be the only retailer considering a CVA over the next 12-18 months... it is ONE cost of a number of other overheads - some can be dealt with "easy" like freezing salaries - taking time to pay suppliers. While some take more time and effort to resolve and we all know this rental issue has been there for years - the only reason it is now number one priority is the fact that high street revenue has fallen and some stores are/will be loss making.. whether the company decides to bite the bullet and take the CVA route or can manage a gradual closure programme remains to be seen. Also if MA is interested in Debenhams, then it might be worth reinvesting due to any offer being almost certainly at a premium to the current share price .. and once taken over .. then a CVA under MA seems far more likely imho. Perhaps over the next few weeks posters can give their experience of their local stores and how they are performing.. perhaps a sweep stake on christmas trading later this month? (ie. 1% less than last year)

Well then they should never had voted to giving the people a referendum in the first place. They did. We voted to leave the EU as some prefer being independent than a bit richer. We can argue until the cows come home but let's not pretend that asking for another referendum is simply because remainers want to overturn the decision already made/advised.

Don't drag me into your argument thanks. I am tied up elsewhere otherwise would be invested. My connection to Debenhams is work related and I am still in the retail sector but head office. Now what I do try to do is look at all sides of the debate and post balanced comments. Granted this upsets a few because now dare a poster not see only a tunnel vision view like buy or sell but be willing to be open minded and able to change opinion based on events and comments. The idiots imho are the ones who only ramp or deramp. Try to see the bigger picture. After six years on LSE I am not suddenly going to change my posting style. For the record I think the share price is oversold and I would not date tell others what to do.

Maybe, just look at France. There's a lot of anger out there. I see a big correction coming. Bonds and property will be hit too. Just not sure when..

Whether referendums are advisory or not - this country has always carried out the result/verdict. In 1977 the government suddenly did not decide that the 1975 referendum was just advisory and we should reverse the decision and not remain members. Scotland did not become independent.. the voting system was not changed... now in 2016 the "advisory" referendum was to "leave the EU". So I hope we don't suddenly decide to move the goal post... it will create mayhem... to be fair whatever happens next could result in mayhem..

Last point - as i rather discuss the company than individual posters - some of his posters have been removed - it takes at least five people reporting a post for it to be removed - my point being I am NOT the only one on here with the opinion that some posters are simply here to trash the thread - and we have also had quite a few new posters on here recently - my opinion is that shorters are posting to create even more doubt and concern when I actually expect the company to do better than expected over the festive period as a number of measures have now been in place for a few months. (Btw if a long term shareholder - didn't you set a stop loss?)

I will not take lessons from a NEW poster thanks - whether you are a long term Debenhams shareholder or not. My connection to Debenhams goes back to the mid 1980s - the company has been around a long time. BTW I do not filter so I repeat ... if you think "Debenhams will go bust LOL" is fine on this thread - you are simply mad... imho
