Sorry but I cannot see the future. More retailers will go bust next year. Whether Debenhams is one of them is currently an opinion not a fact. If you think it is a fact then I wait for you to give me tomorrow's six numbers in the euromillions, thanks

The point about John Lewis and M & S is that they have a food business that makes up half the revenue. Who knows how both companies would be performing without their food business .. I guess a lot worse! As for market share - as I said in my last post, it would not surprise me if Debs market share is up a tad thanks to HoF - but its obviously not 60% more like 25%

I don't know how posters can continue to get away with saying the Debenhams IS going bust without any proof - it is your opinion!!! Remember the company made a £33 million underlying profit last year - ok we have no idea what is happening at the moment but HoF is struggling ditto John Lewis ditto most retailers - for all we know Debenhams might have gained market share re department stores recently - we simply do not know! Have an opinion but until the company updates the market - all we all have is .. opinions! (not facts)

I suppose there is logic to buying a number of different retailers at the current low prices for your portfolio as some will survive... the risk is that 1-2 will fail and that the stock market is still looking like it could correct downwards at some point next year ... personally have some property and bonds as well as shares but I have a feeling that no asset is safe if there is a sharp turndown (either from Brexit/Europe/China or USA)... hopefully I am wrong and both the FTSE and retailers will be higher this time next year

Max, I hope you are back soon as I will miss your input - as for posters attacking you .. I have the same elsewhere - once a poster has an issue with you they can even set up new accounts or follow you around the threads - I know from recent experience. Best to FILTER abusers and continue to post!

Why is the share price 5p? Various reasons - of course the risk of administration being number one. However lets be honest - if every day you get 10-20 posts on the BBs saying it WILL go bust - when it is shorted significantly - when the news is negative and when you have the largest shareholder trashing his own investment and has a direct competitor being a company he owes - what chance do you really have. I guess issuing a decent trading update MIGHT help but some will not be happy until they succeed in their dire predictions imho

Predators - as soon as Whetstone is listed on a proper market and news RNS to all shareholders at the same time and not via a blog - I will shut up - it just isn't right imho. Talk about TI.. talk about a 30 year book project .. but don't make statements that really should come direct from the company - just my opinion. The company is unique and "the trolls" will disappear when the company is not unique - ie. when it is listed , making acquistions , issues accounts , NAV is growing based on actual assets and everyone gets news at the same time. It is best to hear news from the company rather than a blog - no other company does it this way. Remember the £2 billion prediction - it never happen. One last point - when your family and mates hold most of the shares in a company .. of course you are going to ramp up the expectations ... who will be selling the shares to the new buyers today? Just saying...

Personally I have never shorted and probably never will, Totally understand why some do - I just prefer backing a company and hoping for capital appreciation rather than seeing value destroyed. BTW simple question - were's the profits warning? If things are so dire as some say - then you would presume the company would have released a warning by now?
Maybe Debenhams have benefitted more than expected from the chaos over on HoF as it appears trade is down and losses up and MA is having to spend a lot of time trying to turn it around - might explain why he is so upset with Debenhams... last point - LSE2000 - maybe you should have shorted ASOS - down 40% as I type - perhaps look for the retailers whose share prices have not fallen so far re shorting targets rather than advise people to short a company at a historic low!

Probably going down 25% tbh - the focus has been on how bad the high street is performing .. well perhaps the eyes have been off the ball because online is now also being hit for six! Of course it might be certain brands/websites not doing well but some of this will be down to Brexit i guess?

Well the argument put on here that everyone is buying online and the high street is dead so Debenhams is doomed has kind of been blown out of the water this morning....
Online retailer ASOS has issued a profit warning after it reported seeing a "significant deterioration" in trading. So guys lets get real - don't focus just on Debenhams - IT IS THE ENTIRE RETAIL SECTOR - high street AND online that are suffering... be careful what you wish for because if Debenhams were to go bust it looks like you can expect another 10-20 big name retailers to go bust with it. Is this what anyone wants???!!!

Yes the Sunday Mail article was interesting and company bullish. Literally telling MA to come back with a bid and to make sure it is in multiples of the current share price. £500 million less £300 million in debt suggests the BoD will only accept an offer significantly higher than the current share price. Btw for the poster with the memory problem may I remind you that I have the filter button on. All I get is a red line message saying you have posted. What is becoming more common on LSE is that threads have more non holders than shareholders discussing a share they never plan to invest in! What's the logic to it???

Well the weather was dire yesterday so not surprised. Twenty years ago you would have had no choice but to go on to he high street to shop. I don't think people realise how lucky/unlucky they are that they can now sit in a chair all day shopping . Btw so many new posters on here. All negative. Don't think it is not noticed...

What's the point? He is such a supportive shareholder isn't he? Leaking confidential discussions.. buying up a rival competitor.. rumours shares have been lent out to short... either he should make a fair bid early next year or sell up.

People will still have to buy their presents - perhaps like me they are waiting until the last minute? I never understand why some have everything done and dusted by October/November - I enjoy the buzz of last minute shopping and remember pay day for some will be next Friday so lets wait for the December trading figures in total before making assumptions. Debenhams may be doing better or worse than the average retailer - we will know on the 4th January. Also Debenhams do have a decent online business - were I do agree is that footfall is down overall and a few retailers will not be around soon - hence why I can't understand why MA is trying to buy up the high street!
