Well I went pass the Bath store on Christmas Eve and it was fairly busy. There is still a (small) market for vinyl and CDs re the older generation but agree DVDs are going the way of the video .. remember all the video stores in the 1980s? Times change.. tech develops... however we still need to wear clothes, use home ware and spray on perfume :-)

Spary1 - perhaps CLP should move to Britdaq and avoid the MM games on AIM? At least with a share matching system investors decide to pay what they think is a fair price to buy/sell. I would expect trades over 1p on a matched system but thanks to the day traders and AIM market makers, it seems almost impossible for there to be a meaningful rise here - we are on a discount to NAV and I hate it!

Wow confirmation of bond conversion. Plus a new investment and look at the market potential! Seems like a good investment. If the share price doesn't go up today it never will. I have good vibes for 2019 :-)

I agree the internet is the way forward (until a new invention comes along 20-30 years from now) and sales will continue to growth mostly online. I do however hope to still be alive long enough to see the high street continue and that we don't just all end up stuck in our homes on the computers all day not using our legs or fresh air... some do already!

So the question then is why do so many people use the Amazon website? Maybe it's because they sell literally anything you can think of.. Debenhams (and all other department stores) sell clothes, perfume, homeware, bedding etc. (ie. not everything).. Different brands attract different markets - why should it be an issue if more people under 40 use Amazon while a fair number of people over 40 use HoF or Debenhams or more traditional brands?
Debenhams have a decent size online presence - it should not be about trying to fight against Amazon - they won't win - it's about maintaining their current market customers and perhaps gaining a few more over time.
Personally I rarely use Amazon - I can't stand companies who do not pay their fair share of tax :-)

It's a deal with potential. MV of Whetstone £30 million. New deal £600k. Most of the potential is already factored into the price. Remember one other thing. Some one has to sell down their holding due to match trade system on Britdaq (why can't they move to another market yet) so who will be selling ... Obvious reading the Christmas posts that there's no point posting here rational comments because you all don't want to listen. So good luck for 2019. Just don't forget all the history here - good or bad. This is still not an one way bet imho.

Let's hope that people have been holding off spending for the sales. Hopefully Boxing Day will be up in last year. Apparently a lot of men left it to the last minute on Christmas Eve for buying presents so still unclear how Debenhams is performing. Will have a look on their website later to see what offers are worth buying. One prediction is likely re Christmas 2019 - the Debenhams share price will be higher that this year .. or not listed at all .. let's hope it's the former and not the latter...

Well seen one online report saying Christmas Eve sales expected to be up 7% due to shoppers leaving it later than usual. However the weekend wasn't great. Been to Bath today and it was quite busy. Hopefully the online sales over the next few days might help but it still looks dire. Dow down 650 points and now in bear market. Not expecting a great 2019 tbh. However time to switch off and enjoy the break .. have a good Christmas all...

Latino, just read your post. Yes definitely 2-3 years ago on here there were 2-3 posters probably connected somehow with Rangers who were tearing at the individuals involved 24/7. I also think TI may have happen just before suspension and the year or so afterwards pre liquidation. The pension fund issue remains imo one of the main reasons for the continued suspension but CVAs are quite common now a days so who knows? Let's just say a return to the market wouldn't be a complete surprise to me maybe this time next year. What I don't find easy to accept is that BB posting caused much damage only because it happens on many threads and you don't see court action flying left, right and centre. At least it's clear 2019 will be another interesting year gl

Fair enough. No guarantee they want (or could) to dump the lot. Explains in part the weak share price.. Let's hope they have called it wrong...

Agree - and i am sure posters which indirectly encourage others to buy by promising a NAV over 100 times the current NAV is also not "ok"? That's the trouble on this thread - most posts (including me sometimes) are OTT positive or negative - there is not much rational comment! Lets just wait for the news ... my bet is on moving to a live market - enjoy Christmas all..

Sorry but reducing their holding .. by 1.5% !!!! is not significant to most people. If it had been a reduction of 20% (10% to 8%) then I would agree - it depends on if this is just an one off or the first of several days of reducing their holding and no one here will know. So lets keep it real - on both the bull and bear sides of the argument.

Indeed . They were predicting a 20% increase yesterday. Far too early to know but with the weekend and Monday giving extra time to shop for Christmas, I am sure some will be leaving it late this year - I have!

Sains - I don't disagree except to say the whole retail sector is under threat - even ASOS a pure online retailer issued a profits warning and their share price has been in free fall ever since. John Lewis may be ok due to their food business and Harvey Nichs is specialised for the higher end of the market. I guess Debenhams problem is that many of its stores are over 4-6 floors - thankfully most of the more recent modern stores are smaller (Bath/Newport) over 2-3 floors and hopefully whatever portfolio they end up with in 3-5 years time will mostly be the smaller stores ie. less rent!
Some good news - Sky reports that this is "super Saturday" and the biggest spend day outside Black Friday with foot fall expected to be up 20% year on year - i do believe that overall expenditure will be similar to last year for the retail sector but many people (like me) leave it quite late - remember many of us broke up yesterday and now have three days to get their christmas shopping done - i did quite a bit yesterday - some in a busy Bristol Debenhams!

You are presuming it goes into receivership. Let's be frank, if this company did not have a well known shareholders who holds 29.9% and also holds one of its main competitors and wants to take the business out me way or the other - I don't think this one retailer would be getting as much attention would have a share price so low (on a PE of 2 based on last known underlying profits) and would have so many new posters saying it WILL go bust. It's quite transparent games are being played and the main player really shouldn't be allowed to bid after recent events imho

It's not anyone's job to say others should buy - average down - or sell - we all have our own opinion. The share price is 4p for a reason - I suspect its because of the dire retail environment and the lack of trading information - so the market is factoring in the worse case. Totally agree if the retail environment does not improve during 2019 then Debenhams and others are going to find it extremely hard to continue to trade - at least in their current form. Sometimes when a share is at an all time low - then will eventually multibag.. other times its a sign they will go bust soon...tbh it is unclear which is more likely ... hence why the 4th January update will be key...

Bill, don't worry about me.. I will be feeding on duck and goose over the next two weeks and I do hope you all get positive news before Christmas. Agree that one reason I hang around is the OTT ramps and bullish targets by those whose interest it is to see the share price rise but we should all realise most rampers and derampers have agendas - perhaps I would buy at a lower price but it is not in your interest to see a lower price etc.
Predators - I can vouch for John being a shareholder - he has said it is for years. I can't speak for John but I guess he got in near the high point and feels angry about developments. John should acknowledge that Whetstone is a way of getting some/all of his money back but I guess he wants to see a series of decent acquisitions before turning more positive. It don't help he gets attack from all sides - a reason perhaps he has not turned bullish. Whatever happens I hope all have a good Christmas and we can all have decent calm rational debate next year gla
