I don't need to take advise from a new comer thanks. If you are a shareholder you will focus more on the positives ffs. Cost money? No one should trade on BB posts. Btw never shorted in my life. Most negative comments are from shorters or competitors imho. Which one are you?

Thanks - agree the bar chart is showing £200 million as at December - so may be the reason why the banks want to talk.. interesting link so will have a good read tonight - especially re the store portfolio breakdown (10 stores were loss making at the presentation date)

Just checked the October update - can't see were it clearly states the intention to reduce debt to £200 million (there is a £200 million bond dated 2021). Could you highlight the section - thanks.
Surely if the overseas business is sold for circ £ 200 million as planned - it will reduce debt to under £100 million - i guess the problem is that the profits - at this time - will disappear...

Positives 1) net debt down from £321 million at year end to £286 million (although might be seasonal movement re christmas sales) 2) digital up 6% 3) profits (!!!) will be in line with market expectations - which are? 4) talks on debt and moves to improve balance sheet 6) new layout working in stores like Stevenage
Negatives 1) LFL down and worse than John Lewis and M & S 2) cost savings made but there cannot be much more to cut 3) re balance sheet - seems like equity issue likely imho
Overall - no idea how the market will react !!

louis007 - I actually hold shares here now - but unlike some, I try to see the full picture - I expect Debenhams to survive - to recover ... BUT I acknowledge the risks - it will not be easy .. hence the 5p share price!

Interesting - I recall that if profits drop below £ 20 million p.a. the company will break their lending terms - so perhaps getting a bit too close for comfort? IMO a debt for equity swap is now possible..

Debenhams will be closing 30-50 stores over the next five years - so I presume this pushes the CVA option off the table (for now) or at least puts it back as a back up ... maybe a mention of current plans will be included in the trading update.. can't wait.. see you all at 7am lol

Seriously - interesting debate but I don't blame the company for focusing on India - they should also move into China and other high growth countries - as for Argentina - agree should get out at some point unless there is a reason why they are staying put - an question for the next AGM

Err... a few reasons 1) no update given with the results - so we are in the dark re performance 2) debt is still high 3) store closures yet to kick in and still the CVA risk 4) long term rental issue to resolve 5) sector mixed to say the least. Interesting that the food retailer LFL sales were leaked (ie. Sainsburys -0.4% fall was reported yesterday but the trading update RNS was this morning) but rare to see any leaks re the clothing retailers. Personally I am expecting a shock .. either dreadful results or much better than expected and tbh no idea which one it will be..

Applegarth - I am still a bit miffed about the dig yesterday .. not sure why I keep getting singled out when you just need to read the thread to see that over half the posts are digs at the "comments" of other posters - mind you this is not new - it probably has just got more personal and uglier over that last few years - especially on a share like Debenhams were opinions are dividend between 1) this is going bust and 2) this will recover. A bit like Brexit really :-)

USP - since literally all the posts today have been personal attacks on one another - do you now think the entire thread posters are "bored, unemployed and have low IQ"? :-))

LOL nope not even close - just a small investor with about £1k worth of shares here - which, like you, has reduced in value over the last 1-2-3 years.. traded a few times and made some money but also held a core holding and down over 50% - I totally agree with you btw - best to be pro-active and I have been on a few other investments (attended Helphire AGMs (now Redde) been in direct contact with CEOs etc).. TBH not been too active here - maybe I will in future but I try to "support" my investments while being quite prepared to acknowledge the risks and bad news. I don't see this as bad news BUT agree - not much meat on the bones

Seriously - it could be anything 1) RNS logged 2) Brandes dumping a significant number of shares 3) placing 4) rumours 5) MM games .. re earlier posts - no one recently have mentioned the effect of stop losses - it will be one reason for the constant share price weakness over the last few months. You buy in - set a 20% stop loss - it gets triggered .. rinse and repeat.. I agree with stop losses (never used to) but in the end you should decide if you are looking for a short term trade or a possible long game on recovery hopes

Not sure why you are so concerned tbh - the answer might be for you to buy £100 worth of shares and attend the next AGM and put your concerns directly to the Directors. LBH no one will listen on a BB.
As for a worthless RNS .. LOL it's a tie up agreement with the LARGEST 4G company in India - if you think this is worthless then perhaps let me know what you would call significant??

You probably could make this comment on Director pay with most AIM companies - indeed I would argue that most Directors are paid too much - some are paid multi millions. With MOS I see a company trying to grow and develop and there has been plenty of news and tie ups over the last year - but you are right - until we will revenue growth and reduced losses in future accounts - it will be hard to trust the motives.

This is an actual agreement (!!). Indeed look back over the last six months - how many agreements have there been? The issue has been lack of detail on revenue - which is a fair point. I don't mind another placing if it is supported by a number of agreements

The CEO is paid millions.. really? I will have a look but I doubt he is paid millions p.a. You would need to compare his salary to similar sized companies .. I suspect the Next, M & S & SPD CEO are also paid similar amounts... again, there is no point attacking just Debenhams.. ALL companies in the retail sector have similar problems and similar declines and most will report a fall in profits. Debenhams problems are its historic rental agreements and high debt levels but many other retailers have significant debt!

Sains, did you mention CVAs or consider this option while a shareholder? When you have been on LSE a while, it's clear most posters talk a share down or highlight the risks when not holding and talk the share up and highlighting the potential when a shareholder. It's harder to see both sides whatever your position. As a holder, there are still plenty of risks Inc a future CVA but is it the easy or hard option??

You do realise that many other retailers are in similar dire straits? Perhaps all the CEOs of these companies should be replaced? If people are spending less on the high street and more online - it will require a team effort to mitigate the risks and the CEO seems to be doing a fair job - look were he worked before1 BTW why not post your concerns on the other retailer threads? If there a particular reason Debenhams interests you?
