Seems some people haven't understood the news with regards the possible rule changes with regards LFT/PCR testing.
The rates of infection in UK are so high now it's not possible for all positive lateral flow tests to be confirmed with a PCR. The PCR testing system is beyond capacity. PCR testing isn't being stopped, the authorities need to decide how to best utilise the limited resources.
The guidance at present is if you have symptoms get a PCR test.
No symptoms take a Lateral Flow. If that is positive then take a PCR.
The guidance may change that if you have no symptoms & have a positive Lateral Flow now no need to have confirmed with a PCR. Because infection rates are so high there is a greater chance you really are positive.
This doesn't mean PCR testing is being stopped. It means there aren't enough to go round.
