Not sure buybacks are the greatest thing…witness ABDN…an apparently never-ending buyback programme, share price unimpressively weak and yield 10%
If there is so much money sloshing around for buybacks , why not pay special dividends?
After the USA threatened to pull the rug out from funding Israel’s war efforts as the Israeli government refused to downgrade their invasion of the whole of Gaza , the Israelis deliberately incited the Iranians by bombing the Iranian consulate and embassy in Damascus, which killed several senior Iranian military.
Israel has deliberately pulled Iran into overt action.
Diplomatic efforts have to be made to control the situation and rein in both Iran and Israel.
Western / NATO criticism and sanctions against Russia look hypocritical if the same measures aren’t applied to other invaders.
Has anyone worked out what the average price Abdn have paid over the years on their share buyback programme? Truly this is a waste of shareholders’ money….doesn’t the BOD have a responsibility to protect shareholders interests?
The family %age of the shareholding weighs on this attracting any activist involvement.
They could look at paying a special dividend ….the regular dividend isn’t fabulously generous.
Am a hater of share buybacks and special dividends would be much appreciated as an alternative.
Ah, the joys of diversity ; apparently, Amazon is a big believer in diversity as the more diversified your workforce, the less likely they are to unionise or just gang up on you; could this explain the lack of criticism of Bird brain?
We’ll all sell if we make 16-20% profit…what does this mean? The share price is at an ‘historic. low…if you buy today , you might hope for 16% …
Stuffed birds make an excellent alternative to lamb at Easter
Keeping taking the divi has worked well with some cos EG: LGEN over the years but ABDN?
Just pouring more money down the sinkhole…averaging down all the way and it still falls .
When will the BoD take a look at Bird with a more objective eye?
Appalling…and I am sure the ABDN name isn’t helping their ITs trading to NAV much.
The only bright light in the gloom is interactive investor…maybe Richard Wilson would be a good starting point for a list of alternatives to Bird?
FYI: LLucan if you have held this share since January 2020, you may have made £ on the dividends but your cost price 2/01/20 would have been £3.36. ..c.60% loss in capital.
Here’s a thing…and I acknowledge I am reflecting retail banking services in central London but:
Barclays have closed 6 branches within 45 minutes’ walking distance…if you’re very fit…and left one open, reduced opening hours, and cut teller time even more so . Net result there are long queues to see a teller and to use the machines…luckily, on a ledge as you queue, they have sellotaped a laminate A4 from the Post Office offering all sorts of banking services…..Bank of Ireland provides Post Office banking not Barclays. Is Barclays looking to buy Bank of Ireland or shove all those pesky retail customers on to Bank of Ireland? …I think we should be told.
This is probably the saddest state of affairs in the investment world…a good company inexorably being turned into a basket case…what do the BoDs think their responsibilities are?
And why is Bird getting any bonus this year?
JLR’s foot in mouth from Adrian Marvell says it all…manufacturers do not make their vehicles adequately protected against theft and then get bolshie with everyone else because insuring against the nick- ability of their cars is putting off buyers…JLR tried their hand at car insurance and gave it up..it’s a specialist market needing experts not car salesmen…go, Admiral!
It’s time to vote again. It suits Abrdn to close this trust but is it really in the shareholders interest? The NAV is substantially higher than the share price, and there is a lot of jam tomorrow being offered in the proposal to shutter this. How far is the discount to NAV a reflection on how far shareholders and IT investors have lost faith in Abrdn rather than the IT itself? I’m voting against all proposals until the Board of Abrdn show Bird the bird.
