I would not buy this even at 2p...the nail in the coffin was in the Auditors report that indicated that it was uncertain that AST are a viable business moving forward. This will certainly prevent any institutional investment which would then require PI support for fund raising and dilution. Those PI's who have swallowed the unrealisable "vision" of the BoD will throw good money after bad. The overly optimistic subscribers here are betting Slovenia will cough up through litigation. This litigation will take years to resolve with no guarantee of success as AST failed to submit an EIA when requested and the Slovenian govt will use that as a strong defence and add to that the fact we are no longer in the EU......note the BoD have not initiated the claim...does anyone know why that hasn't happened yet. Anybody using this BB as part of their research for considering investing here be advised do quality research, look at historical performance, research the BoD members performance, look at the technical analysis, moving day averages and broker reports you will soon realise that this is not a good punt...walk away without the regrets that many of us have.

Asset value overrated, dwindling product, Dubious BoD...all money men. Concession under threat. Litigation unlikely to succeed now that we are out of the EU. Auditors pointing out the likelihood that this company may not be a going concern. It will liquidate, it's just a matter of time!

Another threat to Ascents continuing existence in Slovenia is the licence or concession for Petosovci that is held by Geoenegro and is up for renewal soon and remember Geoenergo is co-owned by the Slovenian state-controlled energy companies Petrol and Nafta Lendava.

Three items in the Final results should be of concern and have PI's heading for the exit.
Firstly, it is stated that they have funding till the end of the year (Salaries and operating costs eating up that million in the bank!!!)
Secondly, they have not started any litigation against Slovenia.
Thirdly, Cuba is still a non starter and if it does start, it is going to cost! Nothing is for free.

The BoD are very smartly preparing for another funding round to keep their lifestyle going for a while longer!... they are doing it by starting with "spin" in the finals and fooling mug punters of which, sadly, there are many!!!

Dalester puts it into an acceptable context for me... it's a bit like one of my relations who is in his 50's...with 3 children, never worked a day in his life, reasonably fit ( but been on many courses) has a nice modern 3 bed terraced house (social), Apple devices, phones, and tablets for all his family and a 56" tv, a two year old Audi, pre Covidity he managed to rent an apartment in Ibiza for all his family, twice a year and openly brags that it is not worth looking for a job because it would not pay him as much as claiming benefits...done a bit of research and apparently India has more billionaires than most western countries has huge "potential" wealth and is still supported by the UK in terms of financial aid....my cold mercenary heart is getting colder!

AB, I understand your point...if licences can be protected.
I would agree but workarounds could undermine the company value.
My own sense of altruism does not extend to my accepting loss on any of my investments.

QT having a short discussion on sharing IP to allow countries like India to produce Covidity Vaccines
As an investor in Scancell, I have a dilemma. Do we give our IP on Covidity away or do we not. (If it is proven as a successful vaccine). Humanities needs over my personal needs is a question I cannot answer at the moment. Instinctively, I want to protect my investment but watching the media images on the situation in India touches my cold mercenary heart.

Moon, I think you missed Auto’s point. There are plenty of posts on here that indicate dissatisfaction with the pace of progress and there must be a risk that we could end up “missing the boat” with Covidity! However, the Cancer pipeline is the long game and worth sticking with!

The posts this morning seem to be adding a bit of realism. Blind faith in "potential" is not a good basis for investing. I am a strong believer and have been invested here since mid 2020. I monitor the technical analysis, moving day averages and broker comments etc., all of which are generally positive, yet so much can, or could, have a negative impact. Delays, for any reason, trials not successful etc. The fact that news on progress is not being published is a concern for me but admit that slow news may not necessarily be bad news. Maybe I am impatient but yesterday I adjusted my Stop/Loss to a point that will allow me to protect profits with some downside leeway. I am not being negative, I remain as a "strong buy" just saying a little caution can be a good thing.....a lesson hard learned by me in the past!

The recent RNS is positive without being "glowing" and the play with WN is relatively long term.
Wressle not mentioned, so an opportunity missed to provide information on production. I believe the management will shortly decide that the Well and reservoir are too "sticky" to be commercially viable and that it will be shut in and capped. Clearly, this is an opinion not a known fact and is based on my own interpretation of the information that is currently out there!

Oldblue, I hope you are recently invested and can trade this share to reduce your potential loss. I invested £56k to buy 5 million shares some years ago. I was a real believer without carrying out due diligence by research, just pure optimism by reading company RNS's and having a gamblers instinct! (E.g. Idiot). Following the "slick" dilution and consolidation, my original holding ended up with 50k shares which I sold at 13p+ a little while ago, netting a £50k+ Loss. I stil have an interest, as I bought some in my wife's ISA, fortunately not so many but with a loss also.
I have invested the money I rescued from AST in big Pharma and small Biotech and have put some in financials, recovered some but at the moment still down. But not distraught as I have always been a gambler, able to take the loss but not happy with my decision process at the time of buying AST.
I won't re-hash my view of this share as I think readers here know but I would urge any potential investor here to carry out their research on facts and fundamentals not greed and emotion!.. if they do they will realise this is an outside bet without much going for it!.

Cuba and Ascent are very similar. Personnel may change but ambition, albeit unrealistic, remain the same. The new Cuban leader is a communist and will sell unacheivable dreams to his country.. Biden has held back on lifting current embargoes because of this!
If you really think that Ascent can deliver a current desktop exercise into production in Cuba then look at how they managed. "Production" in Slovenia and if you think it's a goer, pinch yourself and wake up!!

Alwaysup, nice bit of research albeit dated 2019, regardless, your point is well made! There will be no Cuban govt subsidies, no partnerships with majors who undertake due diligence and no money made available for such a high risk venture! Parsons and his cronies who have no operational experience are blowing smoke up the rearends of the conned private investors in this company... have any of the board which is made up of what I perceive as "dubious" moneymen invested any significant amount of their own money since the "new" strategy update some months ago?...there's your clue!...None of them have in any significant way. It beggars belief that they are allowed, under the rules, to consolidate and dilute to cheat PI's whilst paying themselves generous salaries.....the rules on AIM need to change to give fairness to private investors.

Oldblue, strangely, I agree with you!... either one of us could be right or wrong, we just have different opinions. Fully agree it is essential to do good quality research before you put your hard earned down and also agree to take everything on here with a large pinch of salt!!... I just wish I had followed this when I jumped into Ascent years ago...a lesson hard learned. I wish you and others on here good luck because I truly believe you are going to need it!

They employ drillers that use Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) to access "complex oil" 1500 metres below sea level. Do you know how expensive that is?...even if you can find the oil in your licence area. Ascent have no way of raising that level of capital which would be required just to explore never mind produce and transport.
Sherritt also mine for Nickel and other metals, they don't scratch around in tailings.
This BoD are trying to extend their lifestyle off the back of uninformed investors (gamblers)....of which I was one!!..I hope I have learned my lesson and that others learn from it too!

I am sure there are those on this BB who remember John Buggenhagen, the self promoting geologist who, at two AGM's, was nearly wetting himself in excitement as he was undertaking 3D seismic survey reviews and repeating that he had never seen such potential...Rapid rise to CEO and then binned by the current management but they continued to pay him for a consultancy role. Whatever happened to the results of the survey reviews?... to my knowledge, Nobody ever saw them. Results were never shared, no confirmation of potential ever communicated and at about the same time a compressor skid was bought ....mysteriously never installed or commissioned but a short time later the compressor was sold. The BoD, I believe, know that their asset in Slovenia is not a commercially viable one and are pinning their hopes on the legal action which I believe will be unsuccessful.
The Cuban pipe dream is a desktop exercise, currently suspended, and without additional funding and dilution will remain what it is....a non starter!!
I really hope that potential PI's do their research on the history of this company and the personnel involved and do not rely on unsubstantiated views on this BB when considering whether to invest here. A lot of us have been "burned" here and more will get burned when this company folds.
