This research by Yu Zhang of Denso below describes their work with simulators and test tracks. I don't believe they have anything like the real Time Data that SEE do, no one does . I could find no mention of Human factors on the FotoNation web page. The necessity in October 2017 to start joint working ontechnology development of cabin sensing between Fotonation and Denso https://www.denso.com/global/en/news/news-releases/2017/20171017-g02/ suggests to me they are playing catch up especially if you look at where SEE Fleet tech was 18 months ago.

I'm inclined to agree with Seeing2020 opinion in his 16.03 post in that Denso would really benefit from having SEE as a partner as they have the Real Time data and the insights that provides into advancing technological developments.

'Mcity at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor provides a realistic off-roadway environment in which to test vehicles and drivers in complex traffic situations. It is intended for testing of various levels of vehicle automation, from advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) to fully self-driving vehicles. In a recent human factors study of interfaces for teen drivers, we performed parallel experiments in a driving simulator and Mcity. We implemented driving scenarios of moderate complexity (e.g., passing a vehicle parked on the right side of the road just before a pedestrian crosswalk, with the parked vehicle partially blocking the view of the crosswalk) in both the simulator and at Mcity. In this report, we describe the differences between driver performance measured on the track and in the simulator, and suggest that Mcity, and other similar new facilities, offer promising new opportunities to study driving behavior in ways that may be complementary to research in driving simulators'.

Indeed it's a large market but I would be interested which one ticks the convenience box and which one meets the Safety tests laid down by the regulators. I was also noting that they intended fitting them at the build stage in 2020 so perhaps our next fleet update may have some details about that in relation to a Guardian V3

Interesting to see that Denso/ FotoNation who I would judge to have a less sophisticated DMS that does not boast about Real world data or cognitive load and does not tell us of a real time monitoring/intervention centre is planning to build their system in new vehicles starting in 2020.

The driver monitor was initially released in Denso’s home market of Japan earlier this year, but it will launch in the North American market in 2019. The DSM was designed to be retrofittable to reach the greatest amount of trucks possible, improving safety for those currently on the road. Denso also has contracts with automotive and CV manufacturers for implementation into new vehicles starting in 2020.

Renault, Nissan Partner With Waymo on Self-Driving Services

Renault SA (RNO.FR) and its alliance partner Nissan Motor Co. (7201.TO) have signed an exclusive deal with Alphabet Inc’s (GOOGL) self-driving technology unit Waymo to jointly explore driverless mobility services in Japan and France, the French auto maker said Thursday.
“The agreement is designed to bring together the strengths of each party and expand expertise by assessing market opportunities, working together to research commercial, legal and regulatory issues related to driverless transportation-as-a-service offerings in France and Japan,” Renault said.

The exclusive deal will initially focus on driverless services for people and deliveries of goods in France and Japan but could later expand to other markets, excluding China, it said.

Renault and Nissan will create joint-venture companies in France and Japan dedicated to driverless mobility services, it added.

Has anyone considered a Toyota/ Dyson/ VSI hook up. Stumbled across Hamme Kim @Toyota tweet referencing Andrew Davison of Dyson Robotics and then found a Dyson Hair dryer and Toyota combo ad.. They look to have many shared objectives / overlaps in terms of Home robotics and Auto..both share VSI as partners and Dyson has new lab in Singapore..thoughts?

Non of the 4 Smart Eye AB Patents from 2018/19 have any Mosaics that show the camera in any other position than directly in front of the driver from my brief skim. The central positioning also lends it self to occupant monitoring which I believe also is not covered in any SE Patent.
