Good morning chilting, I believe its all about perspective. As a retired person with surplus income my increased inflation costs have been manageable so far. But a younger person with a mortgage on a variable rate, or coming to the end of a fixed deal is going to see things very different from me. I think that generally the population is becoming more aware of prices and so more selective in what and where they buy. This is why I am not convinced the MKS figures will be as good as some on here expect. You are looking at AO whereas yesterdays figures for TSCO are also offering clues. Fingers crossed. JJ

We have never had a firm timeframe with VAST and never will. You have only to look at the number of times that investors in VAST have been let down. Don't be surprised if it drops a lot further by the end of April. JJ

Do hope you are right as when I shop at M&S all areas are quiet, but that is early evening so not representative. I think that online could be the big factor now. Happy to hold MKS as I do like both their food and clothing. Fingers crossed for late May. JJ

Next clothing is on the pricey side and the product does not appeal to what I view as the M&S customer. M&S had a problem with the quality and sizing of the clothing offer which has now been addressed. There is still a lot of spare cash in the hands of the typical M&S customer hence food is doing very well and as the weather improves clothing will be much in demand. Its a mistake to draw upon Next as the foreteller of MKS sales and profits. The banks are not experiencing a problem with people defaulting on their mortgages which for me indicates that the conditions are ripe for M&S. But what do I know? JJ

My view is that we need both M&S and John Lewis to both thrive. I am not convinced that M&S are going to declare a div. There is too much uncertainty, but I shall be pleased if I'm proven wrong, again. JJ
