Bluesy, don't disagree with any of what you have said which is why I am a relatively large holder in both SIPP and ISA. I'm content with the increasing dividend and small movements within the range - any larger upticks beyond the £1.30 resistance would be a major plus.
Same strategy with RDSB and BAT - both viable, profit making companies where I'm happy with the dividend and any share price rises are a bonus. The market will either share my point of view one day and share price will rise or they won't and I'll hold tight for the dividends.
My holdings for major share price growth are in more risky green based AIM companies.

Given £1.30 has been a bit of a resistance in the past, suspect we’ll creep up that way then sellers will kick in and we’ll drop back within the £1 to £1.30 range again.
So you either trade with it or just sit back and take the dividend.
Think it will take some big funds buying in or takeover rumours to breakout of the range.

Yep fully agree. Can you imaging the Sun headline "Pensioners freeze whilst Shell distributes billions of pounds worth of special dividends. to rich shareholders?" The Mirror and Guardian would be even worse.
Noticed a few articles yesterday claiming that fuel companies have made too much profit in December by failing to pass on oil price reductions to motorists immediately.
Shell being careful / prudent here - they know they're in the windfall sights.

Nice summary. As we have all been told shares can go up and down, sometimes both in the same day!
I do worry when some posters only ever see price falls as chance to top up (vice a warning that more knowledgeable holders are getting out). I'm not suggesting this is the case for VLS but I would suggest it is not a share you should watch and worry about every day. If you think it's a good long term bet then buy as many as you think wise and then come back in a few years.

Several posters (myself included) commented that Q3 results were deliberately expressed so as to camouflage good profits in some smoke and mirrors. Given current press appetite for fossil fuel windfall taxes I'm hoping Shell do something similar again for Q4 results. Big profits, big dividends and special dividends for Permian sale all fraught with the danger of making Shell look like a cash cow to solve the Govt's problem of how to pay for April's energy cap.
Low key profits, investment and paying down debt all much more politically / socially acceptable at present. We'll get the value one day, just not yet.

Up 5% yesterday down 2% today - all the while you're getting 10% (or perhaps 8.5%) dividend.
I'm happy with that - doubt we'll see more than £1.30 anytime soon (big funds ESG policies will ensure that) but as I bought in at less than £1 I'm happy to just collect the dividend and see my capital remain stable.

I'd suggest their standard RNS should be "Mmmmm." Gives us as much info as normal but no misleading info or false optimism.

All oil and gas seems to be up - has everyone given up ESG objections for the New Year?
Several articles on RDSB Board about how markets may start to realise that old carbon energy companies are the eventual route to green utopia so likely to continue to be profitable for a while and then transform into the greener energy companies of the future. Will we start to see DEC diversify into SAF plants, wind farms, solar farms etc etc?

I still think (or perhaps hope) that this announcement might be Genel BoD being clever around KRG.
Now if you paid us the arrears more promptly and settled BB fairly then we might see if we can drill in from some different angles.
No loss of face for the KRG at present and teh welcome opportunity to increase production once they sort payments / permissions / compensation out.
Don't forget reducing output for us means reducing income for them as well.

RoyGa, think you need a slightly better investment strategy then asking a few enthusiastic posters what you should do. Although there are a few factual posts on here, most can be interpreted differently depending on your perspective, the vast majority are just emotive outbursts based on nothing other then hope or anxiety.
If you don't know what to do then don't do anything.

Thought we'd all agreed that there was little or no debt at year end. End of month debt averages are an accounting hangover from previous months in the year before the big repayment recently.
There is a credit facility but not much in teh way of actual debt now.
Opinions and thoughts welcome but preferably based on reality.

They paid 2.5 but still owe another 8.5 (admittedly not payable for a few years) but no guarantee of JV at this stage. So they’re on the hook if it isn’t sold on.
