Bids are usually about 40% above the mkt price and often the buyer will mention 30day vwap. Bids can get stretched to twice mkt price but are almost never multiples of the mkt price. It’s rarer than hens teeth, but of course there are many who think that their share is the one. It almost never is. So if you really want a bid, it will be about 50p, and I don’t think there are many on here who would find that acceptable.

Sadly Solgold is a good example of shareholders getting way too optimistic about any takeout price. When it came many were (and still are) disgusted. But it was about 40% premium, depending which date you use. It’s a fraction of the potential but it’s likely to be taken over by the Chinese. Be careful what you wish for.

Totally agree Speedy. The volatility in gold and silver over the last few weeks has attracted a lot of bogus reports, AI commentaries and some completely false analysis. If anyone wants to know what is happening these days, the sources (sauces!) they should trust should be the ones they have trusted for the past few years. Imo don’t trust a lot of newbies who have sprung up from nowhere. These are fascinating and exciting times atm, but it’s also very dangerous for the novice, the trustworthy and the gullible.

Couple of points of clarification. For a share buy back I am pretty sure we will need shareholders permission to do that and I don’t think we have authority.

Imo the puts that we have aren’t worth a lot as they are too far out of the money. I suggested to Shaun that he roll them up a bit when he is spewing so much cash. He has ignored me on this, as he did on my suggestion to buy some out of the money calls on oil. Pity, as both of those would have worked quite well early last week. But of course he is managing a business not trading like I am.

GgpTT I would love to tell you the whole story one day. It’s even more unbelievable than you think.

The Ggp lesson is an interesting one though not necessarily relevant to Omi. As soon as the deal was signed Newcrest tried to screw Ggp and there was very little Ggp could do. It was only cos Newcrest were arrogant, inept and had major internal divisions that allowed Ggp, through the genius of their new CEO, who didn’t sign the jv, to turn the tables on the major partner.

So it can happen but you do need to be very lucky and very smart.

There is an interview that Addicknt may be able to reference where a former exec at Glencore said it’s the job of the major partner to screw the little guy, and he wasn’t joking.

I would be very wary of any JV where we are the minority or junior partner. It rarely ends well for the junior in these circumstances. Maybe this time it’s different but I doubt it.

Jupiter G&S up 6.1% today. Tells me that money is flowing into the sector and a lot of it and fast.

There is nothing wrong with having a plan. In fact all investors should have a plan. But to be so wedded to that plan and being inflexible is imo a bigger sin. I have a plan every day/week, and it changes every day/week as circumstances change.

CA is ok but he aint no genius. There are many much much better. But at least he is flexible.

There is always the possibility (I am sure most on here think probability) that OMI does 10x and I agree that GGP is unlikely to do 10x, but that only compares the upside and not all the other factors that go into an investment. The jurisdictional risk is completely different imo. A 1 vs a 10 imo. So you dont scale up your OMI without looking at all factors. Not sure what the correct 'ratio' of GGP to OMI is but mine is 50:1. Probably a bit high but 10:1 would be madness imo.

I have a very large investment in GGP and you certainly wont be getting any of that. But I also had a meaningful position in Solgold and I have put some of that in here. Solgold to OMI isnt such a leap, but anyone who thinks that OMI is analgous to GGP needs to have a lie down. IMO!

My guess is that Shaun and the gold market have made quite a few millionaires through their Ggp holding. That number should keep growing too.

I can confirm what Paddy and E1 say, cos we were all there! Chatham House rules have expired by now.....

My understanding is that the 'primary' listing needs to be on a main market. Secondary listings can be elsewhere. Its the reason why GGP hasnt migrated to GDX yet (though probably will in March) as although their primary listing is now the ASX they need to be on there for 6 months before they can be considered. Its possible that GGP may end up in both indices.

Van Eck are notoriously difficult to communicate with and they dont always adhere to their own rules. For that reason I would never invest in either of these two tickers or in any other VE product.
