Napthman, a rising or falling gdxj has no effect on what the fund needs to do. It’s only investors buying or selling the fund which will change the numbers of shares of the constituents that the fund needs to own. Of course there may be a second order effect in that a rising index attracts more buyers of that index, but that is an assumption, not a fact.
Where you should get lots of buying of Ggp is when the fund needs to rebalance for the huge placing, and of course when Ggp goes into the GDX as it surely must.
So you are right in part, but for the wrong reasons.
