Sector peer Diageo, which is famous for its Guinness, Baileys and Smirnoff brands, was also in the red today after being hit with ratings downgrade by UBS from 'buy' to 'neutral'. The Swiss broker cut its target price for the stock from 2,050p to 2,000p after reducing its earnings forecasts for 2014 by around 3.0%.

However, according to Harvey Jones from The Motley Fool, while SABMiller is an "impressive operation", the stock now trades at 20 times earnings after five years of steady growth and has a dividend yield of just 1.9%. "That's a bit pricey, but many investors will be happy to pay a little extra for this premium strength company," he said. SAB was trading 0.93% lower at 2,956.84p this afternoon.

Lager maker SABMiller was losing its fizz on Monday, dragging the UK beverages sector lower, a day ahead of its third-quarter trading update tomorrow. The company impressed the market with the release of its first-half results back in November and has seen its shares rise steadily over the festive period. Nevertheless, the company did warn of "more modest" volume growth in Latin America, its largest region, in the second quarter as the pace of economic growth slowed. Revenues rose a better-than-expected 11% year-on-year to $17.5bn in the six months to the end of September, as the firm boasted that the Foster's brand - acquired in 2011 for nearly $11bn - contributed "significantly" to first-half growth.

• The deal demonstrates the potential value that the unconventional Vaca Muerta play represents to Andes. Within our valuation of the company, we have ascribed a range of conservative valuations to Andes’ unconventional acreage of between $1,000 and $6,000 per acre. If we apply the YPF/Bridas transaction value, mitigated by a 50% discount, to three blocks in Andes’ portfolio where it is partnered with YPF (representing only c.45,000 net acres out of a total portfolio of 278,000 acres), it is possible to double our valuation of the entire company. The proposed YPF/Bridas deal highlights the huge economic value that the unconventional plays represent to Andes and we are particularly encouraged by the fact that the company is partnered and carried by YPF on three key blocks in Andes’ portfolio within the Vaca Muerta formation. Andes has noted that YPF has entered into a preliminary agreement with Bridas International to develop the unconventional hydrocarbon resource potential of two blocks in the Vaca Muerta formation in Argentina. Under the agreement, YPF will transfer 50% of its interest in the two blocks in return for an initial investment of $1.5bn. Bridas will also finance a further $500m to be invested in subsequent development programmes. • YPF S.A. has entered into a preliminary announcement with Bridas International S.A. to develop the unconventional resource potential of the Bandurria and Bajada de Añelo blocks in the Neuquén Basin in central Argentina. Bridas is an independent oil and gas holding company based in Argentina. Since March 2010, it has been 50% owned by China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC). • Under the initial terms of the agreement, YPF will transfer 50% of its net interest in both blocks to Bridas, equivalent to 45,500 net acres (184 km2). In return, Bridas has committed to an initial investment of $1.5bn and will also finance a further $500m to be invested in subsequent development programmes. • Based on Bridas’ initial investment alone, this proposed deal implies a transaction value of almost $33,000 per net acre. Although our information with regards to the details of the agreement is limited at this stage, this is very attractive and more on a par with the considerably higher transaction valuations witnessed in the more advanced unconventional plays in the US.

Expanding Marketing and Sales Coverage - Post Period For the Suisse Black Card issued by Corner Bank, Switzerland in association with Visa we have added additional sales agents inside as well as outside of China. The ability of China UnionPay cardholders to transfer funds from their UnionPay card to their Suisse Black Card is a compelling and unique feature which the Directors believe will drive sales. A number of international merchants are already integrating the MoneySwap UnionPay Online payment system into their websites, to enable cardholders of UnionPay in China to purchase goods and services online from non-China domiciled merchants. MoneySwap's online payment gateway was completed on time and incorporated a number of features requested by major potential merchants. MoneySwap holds a global license for this product and is working with payment partners such as DataCash UK, who already serve an existing community of online merchants with other payment gateways. Meanwhile, MoneySwap's Point-of-Sale terminals, which accept UnionPay cards, have been installed in a limited number of stores in the United Kingdom and are receiving an increasing flow of transactions. Discussions are ongoing with owners of a large number of retail outlets across Asia for the installation of the terminals. In addition, MoneySwap is in the process of securing additional licenses from China UnionPay to serve additional countries, such as Australia and Thailand. Separately, we have made excellent progress on the MoneyExpress product. MoneyExpress is an unique offering which enables funds to be remitted from abroad to cardholders of China UnionPay in China. Our MoneyExpress payment gateway has been the largest software development project undertaken by the Group since its IPO in August 2011. The product came in on time and under budget and with better than expected performance. Initial trials indicate that remittances are completed within an average of 60 seconds; far quicker than the time taken for remittances by traditional methods, which can take hours if not days. Initial trials will be with remittance partners in Hong Kong and other parts of Asia who have a large customer base of individuals who regularly remit funds to China.

As the Group has not received the outstanding US$1.7m trade receivable, the Group has been required to secure debt funding in order to continue its business operations. During the period the Group received US$1.5 million of unsecured loans (the "Unsecured Loans"), which are repayable at the Group's discretion. Interest on the Unsecured Loans is payable at 5%. Subsequent to the period the Group announced on 19 December 2012 that it had secured additional funding of $350,000 through the issue of a convertible loan note. The Group has also received a further US$435,000 of Unsecured Loans on the same terms as those received during the period under review. The Directors remain in discussions with investors with the intention of seeking further debt funding and remain confident that, with these loans and additional funds, sufficient working capital is available to support the Group's operations and to launch MoneySwap's China UnionPay products. After the China UnionPay products are put into full operations, the Board anticipate that the Group will be funded internally from the revenues generated and repayment of these various loans will then commence. Business review Current Trading The Company has been unable to collect the US$1.7 million trade receivable from selling of Suisse Black Card, reported in the audited financial report for the year ended March 2012. In light of this, operating expenses came under budget but overall business growth was not realized as the Group was unable to implement its planned investments in marketing and sales resources. The Group did however continue to develop its technology and procedures for MoneySwap's China UnionPay products. The Group has commenced revenue generating trial projects for these products post period end.

The interim six month financial period ended 30 September 2012 was marked by the Group developing its products and procedures to launch its three licensed China UnionPay payment products. Revenue in the current period (US$14,000) was similar to the six months ended 30 September 2011 (US$17,000). It showed a decrease from the year ended 31 March 2012 (US$1.8 million) which was mainly due to the inclusion of revenues from sales of Suisse Black Visa of US$1.7 million. Provision was made against this US$1.7 million in the current period as discussed below. During the period, sales of additional Suisse Black Visa prepaid cards of US$2.2 million were billed, however, collection is still pending. Thus the management has decided not to recognise these amounts in the current period's financial results, albeit management will continue to pursue the collection of these funds. Indeed, the Company believes the relationship with Suisse Black Visa is strategically important to maintain as it will provide a unique selling feature to Chinese travellers when integrated with the China UnionPay suite of services available from MoneySwap. Operating expenses decreased for the period, after excluding the effect of the US$1.7 million provision made against the trade receivables, to US$2.4 million (operating expenses for the six months ended 30 September 2011: US$3.2 million).

Towards the end of the year EKF received further orders from the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS), for cuvettes for the HemoPoint H2. It followed a $3.6m order from IMSS in November. Julian Baines, Chief Executive of of EKF, said: "I am delighted with the strong performance shown by the business in 2012. Our continued focus on margin improvement has delivered EBITDA which is again ahead of expectations as well as strong cash generation. "Looking forward, the contract from IMSS and the strong sales of Quo-Test and Quo-Lab we've recorded in January marks a confident start to 2013."

Healthcare company EKF Diagnostics Holdings on Friday posted a 20 per cent increase in revenues for the second half of 2012. In a trading update ahead of its results for the financial year ended December 31st, EKF said the second half wielded unaudited revenues of £26.1m, up from £21.7m the year before. The company reported a net cash position of £2.3m for the year while earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) were expected to be ahead of previous upgraded market consensus. Results were bolstered by sales of higher margin reagents including its chemical, beta-hydroxybutyrate. The second half gained from sales of HemoPoint H2 instruments and cuvette through its distribution partner, Alere. Alere sold 2,460 HemoPoint H2 instruments into the North American market compared to 608 sold by Stanbio in the previous year.

AIM-listed software firm K3 Business Technology Group expects to generate pre-tax profits below current market forecasts, according to trading update for the financial year ending June 30th 2013. In a statement issued Friday morning, the company, which provides Enterprise Resource Planning software to the supply chain industry, reported that it will "generate pre-tax profits below current market forecasts". It stated that this was due to the deferral in signing certain retail deals and investment in the group's Microsoft AX offering. Outside of the retail space, the board said it was pleased with the performance of the group. The group is in the process of creating a new retail solution built around Microsoft's latest AX technology. The company stated that developing 'IP' and global channels to market, together with Managed Services, would help to drive K3's medium and long term growth and was expected to yield significant returns in the future.

"The prospect of a shortfall in energy supply in the UK, as highlighted by Ofgem and the National Grid, reinforces our confidence about the continuing opportunities to the group for further growth. "Given the high level of interest in UK onshore shale gas, Alkane is evaluating its options in relation to potential shale gas resources within its licensed portfolio."
