Panmure Gordon has raised its target price for online gaming group 888 Holdings after the company revealed details of their record fourth quarter on Monday morning. The broker has kept its 'buy' recommendation for the shares, saying that the stock is "inexpensive given the group's forecast-beating performance and growth potential in regulated and regulating markets." The target price has been nudged up from 143p to 145p, implying 18% potential upside from current prices.

UBS cut its recommendation for aerospace engineer Meggitt from 'buy' to 'neutral', causing shares to fall on Monday morning. The broker has raised the target price for the shares from 440p to 450p, but removed the stock from its M&A watch list "on lack of value-creation grounds"

"All things considered, to produce a 16% increase in profits is a testament to the organisational skills of the management team led by very able CEO Mark Bristow. Given that the share price falls since October have arguably factored in the uncertainty over Mali conflict, the reassurance from Bristow and his team that Randgold is on target to produce 1.2m ounces of gold by 2015 is good enough for Prime Markets." Curr said that as long as the shares close above the benchmark 200-day moving average (currently at 6,248p), a push higher to test the "November and December triple high" of 6,550p is likely in the next seven to 10 days.

Prime Markets sees substantial upside potential at gold miner Randgold Resources following the company's fourth-quarter report on Monday. The firm unveiled a 16% increase in full-year profit to $511m for 2012, with gold production up 15% year-on-year to 794,844 ounces. The dividend was also raised by 25% to 50 cents per share. Even its Loulo-Goukoto mine in Mali, where French Malian forces are battling against al Qaeda-linked Islamists in the north of the country, managed to exceed its full-year production target. Meanwhile, its Tongon mine which was hit by a fire in December, has been resorted to full production. "As the FTSE 100's pure gold play, not only has Randgold Resources had to battle with a languishing Gold price, but it is still facing potential disruption at its flagship Loulo-Gounkoto mine in Mali as the French forces battle with al Qaeda-linked Islamists, and production at its Tongon mine in December as a result of a fire," said Richard Curr, the head of dealing at Prime Markets.

Positive Points: Randgold declared accelerated development at its flagship Loulo mine complex, delivering 503,224 ounces in the full year, mostly from Loulo's two underground mines, Yalea and Gara and a ramp-up in plant throughput following the successful commissioning of a third mill. Randgold reported a record 14% rise in production to 794,844 ounces of gold in 2012. At its Kibali mine, development remained on track for first gold production by the end of 2013, with all key contracts now agreed and the mine's costing schedule finalised. A parallel development of the vertical shaft is presently underway, added the group. Randgold has expanded its footprint in the Democratic Republic of Congo through a joint venture with Kilo Goldmines which gives it access to a further 2,000km² of prospective greenstone belt in the Congo Craton. A substantial capital investment programme continues to be pursued.

Negative Points: The group's Tongon mine suffered from frequent outages in its national grid power supply, which continued to impact negatively on plant availability and recovery. The situation was compounded by a fire in the milling circuits. The miner also faces high political risk in the Ivory Coast, where one of its mines, Tongon, is located. Randgold reports in US dollars. However, operating costs are split 40:60 between the Communaute Financiere Africaine franc (CFA) and the US dollar. The CFA is fixed against the euro, therefore, depreciation of the US dollar against the euro would cause the cost base to rise and could negatively impact future earnings. Unforeseen operational problems at its mines, higher than expected costs or adverse weather conditions could all have a detrimental effect on production. Unlike other metals, gold has few industrial uses. A recovering global economy could see Randgold lag other raw material producers.

Financial Highlights: Randgold reported a full year profit of US$511 million. The group recorded cash and gold in hand at the year end amounted to US$403 million, allowing for capital expenditure of US$563 million, mainly on its Kibali project. The board has recommended a 25% increase in the annual dividend to US 0.50 cents for shareholder approval.

Fourth quarter and full year results: Today's announcement saw Randgold achieve record production levels in 2012 and a 16% rise in full year profits to US$ 511 million. Production levels for the year also rose 14% to 794,844 ounces of gold while quarter-on-quarter, profit was up 18% and production up 5%. Underpinning the results was production at the group's flagship Loulo-Gounkoto complex in Mali, where the group reported that production had exceeded its yearly target, delivering 503,224 ounces. Production at their Tongon mine in Côte d'Ivoire however slipped from 250,390 ounces in 2011 to 210, 615 ounces, mainly as a result of frequent outages in the grid power supply, which caused disruptive plant stoppages. The plant was restored to full production by the end of January. "Our chief objectives for this year are to pour first gold on schedule at Kibali, get Tongon back on target, maintain the strong performance at Loulo-Gounkoto and Morila, and continue to deliver profitable growth. Beyond that, our sights are still set on reaching our annual production target of plus 1.2 million ounces of gold by 2015." said Chief Executive Mark Bristow.
