Cheers for the heads up on sqs,coming off the highs here but i guess the sudden rise may have scared off a few non-believers. Happy to ride any dips as i,m hooked on this one and not prone to take an early profit(as i was with my jpr earlier),although the yields not massive i,m in the same frame of mind as my tate and lyle and nat.grid,just like the companys and where i see them going. Could you give me a snap shot explanation for the Elliot Wave Theory if you get a moment please,james

Fair play having the patience and confidence to hold on and learn from past mistakes,personally i have no problem sitting on a profit where theres a yield involved or if i believe the company is in growth mode as here but on some of my others,there has been a feeling of almost relief to have escaped! Good luck here and hopefully a decent set of results will give the S.P.a further boost and for me as a longtermer here, i,ll be playing close attention to the "progressive dividend policy".

I,ve never looked at this one so much in a day,ticking up nicely. The results are out on Wednesday i think,so will be watching the late trades on monday and tuesday. This moving from the share i dont worry about to the share i,m getting excited about!

The drop was in the price around the time the RI was announced,it probably dropped a bit further as this normally happens with over -reaction etc.

£4- breached,lets hope we stay above it!

No worries mate good luck with it all and try and be patient, its been my biggest mistake to sell the good ones too early due to my impatience,if you buy the right ones in good companies and get a myriad of views,try and sit tight.

On ctt,not sure if its dead yet. On ennstone i did make money but then got back in for a base holding(only a few 100 thankfully),but we live and learn.To be honest my only real bad ones were woolies and rbs,which i sold most of when they went below a couple of quid,took the hit,averaged down at about 30p and used the proceeds to mess about with all sorts of things. On speedy, i,ve already got some at about 31 but bought some more earlier as i fancied a punt and they,ve been fast movers in the past, i,ve developed a penchant for stocks in the 20p-60p range recently and buy base holdings for one nominee account and extras that i buy and sell,the base holding in case they "break out" as recently with tw,jpr,inch type of shares and after the dyson experience i research a bit more these days!

Did you have to mention cattles!!!! They sit with my cambridge mineral resources,ennstone,bradford and bingley,northern rock and most recently,dyson group,the naughty file,actually i,ve also got some irvine energy,all as far as i know dead in the water and had a discussion with my accountant recently about when/if to declare them as losses,my reply, i,ll need some gains first! Only joking,i have done allright on some others recently but a few more needed to clear that backlog,hence active trading,otherwise i,d just sit on my national grid etc etc and a few below the radar ones like this i guess. Good point on averaging up and rather than waiting and hopeing,get the money into something thats "happening". I,ve done that today with speedy hire as it might just catch a ride on the taylor wimpey type of stocks maybe???? By the way on the "what if,s", mine is pendragon, bought 100k of shares at c.2p and sold them at 4p,that was clever wasnt it,whats yours?

The only reason we buy shares is if we think they are going to go up in value,unless you are shorting on cfds which i would never advise anyone to do because the downside is losing more than you,ve put in. Take the worst case scenario,that you buy shares and the company goes bust and work up from there. There is capital growth and yield,the latter in the form of dividend payments but even though you can get 5-8% with heavy hitters like united utilities,nat grid,bae etc,they wont make you rich. I,ve got 3/4 of my share money in yielders,the rest in things like this and a few micky mouse/high risk penny shares but only what i can afford to lose. My advice,whatever amounts you have to invest,spread the risk across different types of stocks and hold back a bit of cash in case of rights issues,open offers or averaging down opportunities and remember the ones that go up fast can go the other way just as quick,so if thats your poison then get live prices on shareprice.co and keep a close eye as profits can evapourate in seconds,this one comes under the heading of safe,healthy,growth potential etc but reasearch on the net,get hold of prospectuses,read the papers,watch the trading ranges and dont worry about missing boats as there are plenty of companies out there to get into. In this sector i,ve also got piecemeal holdings in carillion and balfours but with this one it could be perceived as one of those small caps that gets noticed if you follow me,but i,m sure you would agree that i,d prefer to see steady growth that is sustainable rather than an up 20%/down 20% scenario that makes it one of those shares you end up watching all the time,trying to sell a few on the highs and buying back on the dips, i,ve got that scenario with my johnson press at the moment and wouldnt want this to move into that category. My prediction here is that a cracking set of results could get us to 40 and then a little bit here and there after,whats yours?

Without wanting to sound smug,this holding doesnt worry me(unlike a few others i hold and some i,ve been relieved to get rid of!) because they,ve got plenty of work and all i see is steady growth.They,ve been around a long time and i remember my old man used to know john venner(a long time ago) and they were a share of great promise then that never really rocketed but in a steady way they made him a lot of money because with most things that rise strongly and quickly,theres inevitably disproportionate profit-taking and the speculators can sometimes ruin it for the longtermers. Notwithstanding i,m a specultor myself but not with these because i believe in the longterm growth and sustainability and although the div,s not great,its there and unlikely to be tampered with. Having said that, i,ve got an additional holding in these now in my "gambling account" that i might play with,but more likely to shift it over to my"investment" account where the rest of them live i.e.dont tend to move about. We,re not talking hundreds of thousands here but part of a portfolio where i strive to make a bit on the side,partly because theres little or no bank interest these days,partly to make up for previous losses in banks and woolies and mostly because i enjoy it!

Just relieved to see us closing over 30 and no retraces back into the late 20,s,i look forward to us discussing prices in the 40,s soon and that progressive dividend policy kicking in!

If you scroll back a few pages,theres mention of the MSCIglobal index,maybe its something to do with that?

In answer to your query,i have no information outside the public domain but i,m a big fan of these and have got a fair amount of them predominantly for the c.6% yield. The recent questor tip was encouraging for growth,sugar prices are doing well and a few months ago they lost their place on some trading exchange which i dont understand but i bought in at that time as i felt they were oversold in relation to the yield and doubled my holding on the strength of the questor tip as i see these as a healthy investment for capital growth too,the only thing i can think is pure speculation that if they were put back on that exchange or got a sniff at the 100,then there would be a decent rise as they then become buys for the pension funds etc,hope that helps,good luck anyway and if they dont go up at least you,ll get a decent divi!
