Appreciate the JC connection but Nuvec is a nano delivery system developed with Uni of Queensland whilst SCLP is Nottingham based.

PS Nasal sprays such as under development at Uni of Birmingham are a possibility and they are looking at intra nasal formulations of Oxford AZN/Imperial

My understanding is that a intra nasal Approach certainly Vaccine is not valid for DNA plasmid and think it is accepted that electroporation is not suitable for mass adoption during an immunisation programme.
Hence why SCLP went down this particular route.

I don’t see any conflict between saying we are aware if and supporting 2nd generation Vax but they are at a relatively early stage of development.
In the meantime we are protecting the population as fast as possible and of course there is the possibility that current Vax or modified versions may work well against the variants.
I just thought Thomas Moore who knows about the SCLP Vax and specifically included the concept in his question( admittedly as a 3rd component) did not get any answer

Highlighted the need for a 2nd generation Vax in his question but Han**** messed up and then realised JVT had not answered so he asked him to comment on it again.
JVT talked about holidaying in Europe and gave confidence in using AZN Vax in over 65s but did not speak about heed for a Vax to do the new variants.
Really hoped they have not missed a golden opportunity

A refreshing post and absolutely it recognises that things can and indeed do change and many of us who have always been very impressed and confident in the science recognised the game changing moment when Redmile came on board.
As you highlight they are the key to monetising the science by progressing the platforms into trials and generating data.
Plus completely agree with your conviction is having a “ proportionately sensible holding” here and I can see you take a detached and balanced view.

Ratty.Hope my feelings about comparing the two as investments came through as chalk and cheese.
However, sentiment which is often based on other than fundamentals can be a very powerful driver in driving up an AIM SP.
As always I only ever post what I believe to be my understanding and have long had a policy of encouraging everyone do do their own research and not frequenting other boards to “warn “ off people of the alleged folly of their investments.
Yes I may thank someone for saving me holding on from 70p all the way down but equally I would feel very different if I was persuaded to sell at 5p when it leaked at 60p so again you should ignore everybody abd accept responsibility for your own actions.

I have to say from the start that I personally don’t think the science in VAL is good and I have not been in there in 5 years.
However anyone that thinks investing on AIM is all about “ the science” may just consider yes VAL fell from 70p to 20p but also went up from 3.5p( about the lowest here) up to 60p more than double the highest here and all in the space of a few months.
As I said I don’t believe in VAL but that probably is the reason why I did not buy any but if we are here to make money like I guess most of us are that was a big mistake by me and many others here.
My point is if you are here to make money then don’t think the science is always the most important factor.

I was attempting to generate light rather than heat.
The argument was about whether Redmile would “ invest” in the ability of SCLP to initiate and run a p1 trial without a partner in the wings. The argument was in relation to Covid Vax.
I simply tried to highlight the example of Moditope as a clear example where RM are happy to back SCLP in first in human studies hence establishing some evidence.
I believe the same rationale can be applied to Covid Vax but recognise the difference in the necessity of a partner in case of Covid Vax not only to finance p3 but to provide manu scale up and logistical support which are not additional requirements for Moditope

Sometimes I think it is worthwhile stepping back to see the arguments on both sides more clearly.
Regarding potential partners and whether SCLP is “ investable” based on their ability/ lack of ability to progress a p1think Moditope rather than Covidity and I think you have a clear answer there.
PS I am certainly not emotionally attached to any share as like you Hasiba have learned that lesson and yes I am here to make money

Ruck I am with you and I never get too excited about raising expectations until I have heard from CH.
Yes he is not the most dynamic speaker but that is why to me what he says is so informative.If he gets excited and animated then you can tell that something is close.
The Govt Vaccine roll out has been an outstanding success and so far the current Vax are proving very effective and we are finding out more and more about how they can reduce transmissibility etc so at the moment there is not a desperate need for 2nd generation ones just increasing global supply.
I really don’t think there is any inconsistency in the Govt position.They are maximising the impact of current Vax whilst at same time providing support for 2nd generation efforts like SCLP to start to generate human data.
I am optimistic that the p1 data will be encouraging given the track record of other Vax and the Approach SCLP has taken.
Once that data is generated and I really hope the “ Vulpes View” is correct regarding timeline.All else in the article was already known.It is important that SCLP generate the data ASAP and the recent press coverage indicates great progress has been made.
However to suggest the Govt is ploughing ahead with the Vax programme for any other reason than to protect the population as quickly as possible and the political capital that comes with it is way wide of the mark imo

I am with you.
The court cases are revealing in that they provide the only evidence as to what is going on behind the scenes and there is enough speculation based on what is not known.
So when it appears that there is lots of internal arguments I tend to believe that it is more likely to reflect reality than it been staged as some grand plan.
I am always more a believer in **** up rather than conspiracy and the more I learn here just convinces me more and more that I know less of what is going on apart from they are like rats in a sack.

Kraft I think a very balanced post of yours in explaining situation.
We know SCLP need a big partner to take this forward not only to finance p3 but also to scale up manu which we know is easier with DNA.
We also know a big partner will not come in until SCLP demonstrate p1 results. So boils down to how confident SCLP are in Vax.
My take I don’t think there is a done deal but would imagine there has been interest as they will know about SCLP and I can’t see SCLP putting so much effort into it purely on anticipation of a deal and although p1 results will produce human data they are not going to be large enough to make a compelling take to market done deal so it may be enough to take it into p2 and see then re evaluate the results at that stage.
Plus of course the possible option of doing p2 Human Challenge studies

It was just re-emphasising the very high costs of entry to this market place for any competitor .
First mover advantage and the historical experience and expertise of ORPH in this area is huge and then add in cost of establishing new facilities.
Listening to the webinar and getting a better understanding of the unique knowledge that this Covid CHIM model could reveal means that ORPH position is not only reinforced but virtually unchallenged.
I know Meta I think may be looking to do HC trials at Leiden but very limited facilities and ORPH may well be involved.

Yep agree Matt seemed more detached about some of the other comments from Meta and Martin and appeared to want to make separate and contrasting points.However,it probably helped that he took a slightly different tack and very definitely took his own position in things as helped with balance.
The most important thing I took was the great position ORPH is in with these CHIMs.The fact that the current model is based on original strain and the likelihood is that further models will be required and that these HC models gives the scientists info that can’t be obtained by normal field trials.
The initial study will possibly reveal areas where further investigation will be needed and this could be so important to ORPH in negotiating with bio pharma who want to do HC studies.
This data could be crucial in setting out trial protocols and testing and validating approaches as Matt said in his examples.
That plus the very high cost of entry for new competitors is what I gained most
