The approach of SCLP differs much from others in targeting both S and N protein( it is the S glycoprotein which tends to mutate more and role of nABs( neutralising antibodies is of higher significance) whereas N protein is more conserved against Covid variations and T cell response more important.
So it is a very different approach to many others and theoretically should work very well but we just have to wait for proof.
As you say the DNA methodology is much cheaper and easier for scaling up than other approaches.

They have to plan years ahead as normally when a patent cliff happens they will lose up to 90% of their sales within a short period of time despite product life extensions.
It often takes several years to develop the pipeline fill to hopefully make up for the gap and hence the forward actiib

Agree it is standard protocol to issue one even if it is not a huge surprise for say the start of a phase 2 or 3 trial for an established pharma with many drugs in development.
But IMO it is significant for SCLP as was said earlier they have not treated any trial patients in last 6 years/ it is the first in human dose of a completely new Vaccine with a novel delivery system/ and it confirms the countdown for SCOV2.
So Kashdog I will often support your view but on this occasion I do disagree and Bermudas point about not equating FPI with a Marge pharma and SCLP is valid

It may not have to be RNSd but I do think they highlighted that they would RNS FPI on I think the Combo trial.
For them not to do so in any brand new clinical trial would be a surprise.

Hi Violindog.The significance of FPI in my mind is highlighted by Bermudas post on other forum.It is not only signifies the physical part of the trial has started but also the manu of SCOV2 can be assigned a more accurate timeline

I think she did WTP and yes she could have something more pressing especially now as CEO.
This would be seen as quite a big Scientific event but maybe LD feels she has to adopt a lower Scientifuc profile given her new position.

Just had my final invitation to the above today but saw that in the latest Conference Programme that LD does not appear as a speaker as she had originally been listed.
Wonder if she is preoccupied elsewhere as thought this event would be well up her street with a focus on cancer Vaccines etc

SZ the characterisation study has been completed and that was said at Friday presentation and some thought a separate RNS may have been issued.However until the trial write up is awaiting publication and until this is done I feel that the ORPH policy is to let the Govt/MHRA and imperial drive the agenda given the sensitive nature of these studies

No real mystery as we know it has taken longer to get the characterisation study completed due to the extended time taken to get regulatory Approval.Plus the Delta variant is so dominant then it makes total sense for Vax rather than AVs to be tested against this rather than Alpha variant.

Chester even with no official communication if the AGM is held a few weeks after FPI then a response to the question along the lines of everything proceeding as expected is telling in sense most AEs to Vaccines occur very quickly and as an open label study they would have some feedback very quickly.
They would not know anything about long term consequences but as safety is paramount it would be a very good start.

The trial has already officially started in Sept and is listed on CT website but says FPI is the real measure of the trial being underway imo and as Bermuda says there may be other preparations to be completed.
At least there will be plenty of availability of trial volunteers unlike the SCIB 1 trial which has as we know has been officially started fir some time.

Test the ability to develop ‘universal vaccines’ against all viruses in a family or subfamily. A holy grail of vaccine research is creating vaccines that can protect against entire virus families, such as all coronaviruses or all influenza viruses, that mutate frequently and/or circulate seasonally. Programmable vaccine platforms will enable testing of multiple approaches to assess whether universal vaccines may be possible, with the potential to address entire families of viruses.

They will get much of the “ safety” info very early on as the vast bulk of any AEs on Vaccines occur very quickly after the jab and it is an open label study. How much data they release is another matter but no news imo is generally good news as the only thing you really want to avoid is an SAE and if that happened I suspect we may find out.
I really hope that the patients start being dosed soon so that we can ask the question at the AGM and hopefully get a response along the lines of all progressing nicely.We can then make a guess at the tune of roughly how many patients may have received the first dose as I don’t see any problems in recruitment.
I am really looking forward to the FPI announcement as this should enlighten us and enable us to tighten up the trial timeline in particular it will reinforce the position regarding the manu of SCOV2 being on time.
