Amazon are worse for working conditions. and they even get away with pay their taxes properly. if sports direct was an American company most of this would have gone under the radar like it does for Amazon. but the trade union Unite really stir it up. I don't see the point of trade unions. pointless membership fees they just try to coin it in for themselves. and sort of weird how the committee members admitted that there would be potential bias as Unite had contributed towards their election expenditure. whole thing is corrupt.

some twa* on the news going on about how you can't get a mortgage on a zero hour contract. You f**king dummy. LOL. zero hour contract jobs are targeted more for college/uni.students and those who prefer seasonal work. if your trying to get a mortgage working in a warehouse isn't exactly the best way to do it. grotesque smear campaign against sports direct. Its so pathetic.

zero hour contracts are used by several blue chip companies. Tesco, Homebase and Mcdonalds to name a few. as for being docked 15 minutes for being 1 minute late that is not uncommon for logistics and warehouse companies. Norbert Dentressangle now XPO logistics docked you 15 minutes for being 3 minutes late. I am sure DHL and Amazon do the same. At Amazon 3 strikes if you make mistakes in the warehouse and your fired. Its all a f**king double standards!!

seems unfair as several retailers and restaurants use zero hour contracts and that's become the norm these days. Most of them are high school seniors or college/uni students who are after temporary seasonal work anyway so it suits them as well. But they only make a big drama out of sports direct doing it because they're successful.

they may as well just buy the rest of the company and de-list. just unnecessary costs for them keep it floated. less regulation for delisted companies. i guess they don't care about low share price because when it does finally get de-listed they have a wonderful and profitable company. which is easily worth more than double the market cap. long term earning power which would probably generate them a lot of profit in the years to come. shame really. I would have liked to have had a piece of the action. There are other quality stocks similar to this one out there that are also retail/pi friendly. just a shame this couldn't be one of them.

Already made £147m profit in H1. Short term stocks can be detached from fundamentals. Long term the stocks always reflect earnings. This is a buy in my opinion.

True. Mike Ashley is flamboyant and outspoken and that helped build Sports Direct up to what it is. But more recently I agree it has been more counter-productive and he needs to calm down a bit and focus on the company.

I have asked IR to see what their opinions are. Hopefully they will come back with a response. If not I am dubious about investing. doesn't seem geared up for Pi/retail investors.

can't see what's the holding the share price back. oil nearly $50. the company is highly profitable. Tangible net book value is easily £1.50 a share. Debts levels are low and nice cash balance. the sharholder issue is having a really detrimental impact on share price. all they would have to do is put a slide presentation out and investor evening or stocktube etc I was tempted to buy but something strange about this stock.

if the share price is market down because its fallen into FTSE 250 and some bad press then that created an entry point. when i saw how robust the balance sheet was and that they already made £147m in H1, it was a no brainer.

good points made. Dividends in my personal opinion is good to have as a bonus I wouldn't ever knock dividends and I have some dividend yield stocks in my portfolio However in terms of the share price I don't see what difference it really makes. if it paid out say 20p per share then the share price would fall 20p on ex-dividend date. the value of the dividends paid out as a negative impact on share price because the company is loosing that money. Its worth paying dividends doing if they have excess cash which they can't reinvest or if it didn't have much debt to pay down on. Otherwise the capital can be more efficiently put to better use if the profit was reinvested in say opening new stores. JD dividend yield is less than 1%. as an intelligent investor I would rather allocate my capital to a company that proportionally generates greater profit with proportionally less debt. You can manually pay yourself dividends buy selling a few shares at profit. which i believe warren buffett does for Berkshire.

the good thing about SPD is that the share price is distorted from reality that it has created this opportunity to buy in. not many undervalued companies like this out there in the large cap area.

Interims for SPD. £147m profit for H1. That's more than what JD made in a whole year!!! If H2 is as sh*t as Mike Ashley says then conservative projection would be at least £200m. (but really more like £220m to give a more moderate prediction)
