London – Global demand for liquefied natural gas (LNG) is forecast to rise by around 60% by 2040, largely driven by economic growth in Asia, emissions reductions in heavy industry and transport as well as the impact of artificial intelligence, according to Shell’s LNG Outlook 2025.
Industry forecasts now expect LNG demand to reach 630-718 million tonnes a year by 2040, a higher forecast than last year.
Global LNG trade grew by only 2 million tonnes in 2024, the lowest annual increase in 10 years, to reach 407 million tonnes due to constrained new supply development. More than 170 million tonnes of new LNG supply is set to be available by 2030, helping to meet stronger gas demand, especially in Asia, but start-up timings of new LNG projects are uncertain.
“Upgraded forecasts show that the world will need more gas for power generation, heating and cooling, industry and transport to meet development and decarbonisation goals,” Tom Summers, Senior Vice President for Shell LNG Marketing and Trading, said.
“LNG will continue to be a fuel of choice because it’s a reliable, flexible and adaptable way to meet growing global energy demand.”
China is significantly increasing its LNG import capacity and aims to add piped gas connections for 150 million people by 2030 to meet increasing demand. India is also moving ahead with building natural gas infrastructure.
We just need that first wheel to start rolling.........
SNDA, remains a minnow holding a Super Majors License (by default/lucked in) Shell spent over $47m on Chuditch, that was 25 years ago, what' that in current prices, mapped and seismic the entire license 3,571 sq km, Boil/SNDA have only played with around 1/3 of that.
Only going to grow, Shell gave all follow on wells at Chuditch a 100% COS, as they only drilled on the fringe of the reservoir, with more upside leads across the license. From most recent RNA's, CH-2 set to be drilled in a depth of reservoir 6 times thicker than CH1
GIIP and proven up reserves, will just keep growing, if AB can hold on to a decent chunk or a royalty for the long term.
As Meadow posted earlier, the Majors and Tier 1 players left due to frustration, if a player now comes in to fund/operate the Onshore complex this time, the Timor Leste section of the Timor Sea will all explode, with their return.
They know what is out there, including the little talked about Kelp (1998 discovery Mobil) given an initial rating of bigger than both Greater Sunrise and Chuditch put together.
TL portion of the Timor Sea underexplored, the OZ and Indonesian Timor Sea waters have been highly productive with DOZENS of large discoveries in both. TL Waters the juicy filling in the OZ/Indo prolific sandwich
And it all starts soon 🤞🤞🤞🤞 with Chuditch leading the way......... 🤔
