Zimbabwe's largest diamond producer, ZCDC, has shifted almost all of its diamond sales to Dubai auctions to target a wider range of buyers and eliminate middlemen. This move is partly in response to a global slump in diamond prices. The Dubai auctions have attracted a larger number of buyers compared to previous sales held in Zimbabwe.

Dubai as a new hub:

ZCDC, the state-owned Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company, has transitioned its diamond sales to Dubai auctions, aiming to reach a broader market. Targeting a wider audience.The Dubai auctions are designed to attract diamond cutters, polishers, and traders, rather than just traditional buyers.

Eliminating middlemen, Selling directly in Dubai allows ZCDC to bypass intermediaries who previously participated in auctions in Zimbabwe.

Increased buyer participation. Dubai auctions have seen a significant increase in buyer participation, with an average of 150 buyers attending, compared to previous sales in Zimbabwe. Addressing global price drop.The shift to Dubai also coincides with a decline in global diamond prices, and the company hopes to see prices stabilize by early next year. Zimbabwe is also looking at developing its own diamond exchange in Harare and potentially conducting auctions within the country

Interesting article (no date on it though) , in another Minister said all Auctions now Dubai, to cut out the middle men and maximise profits , in the current low price environment.
