So how much oil does the country have?

According to Statista, citing official Department of Energy (DoE) data, the island nation holds 139 million barrels of "proven" reserves, as of 2024.

That's equivalent to an estimated market value of $9.61 billion (based on mid-2025 oil market data).

There could be more.

The key: ramping up the pace of exploration.

The Philippines is said to be “sitting” on a gold mine of untapped hydrocarbons.

This is a largely unproven claim, but worth noting: Since the 1970s, only a few wells had been drilled, supplying a small chunk of the domestic oil and gas demand.

There’s mounting evidence of higher fossil fuel resources in the highly-mineralised archipelago.

What about oil and gas?

Currently, actual fossil fuel production volumes are considered “modest” compared to world oil and gas producers.

Yet, the Philippines is believed to be “sitting on” significant hydrocarbon potential, especially in the West Philippine Sea, Mindanao, and central Visayas.

Several oil and gas platforms are already in production, while others are still being explored or are untapped.

Location: Mindanao (BARMM area).

Reserves: Liguasan Marsh is estimated to hold 3.4 Tcf of natural gas and 4.8 billion barrels of crude oil (though much is still unproven and remains unexplored).

Status: 29 bcf of gas already discovered; Sulu Sea (offshore) and Cotabato Basin (onshore) together have a combined potential of over 360 million barrels of oil equivalent, based on DoE exploration data.

PXP awaits Marcos nod for production, exploration

PXP ENERGY CORP. is seeking approval from President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. for four petroleum service contract applications covering continued production and new exploration activities, according to its top official.

The company owns four of the eight contracts pending a decision from the Office of the President, PXP President Daniel Stephen P. Carlos told reporters

For new prospects, PXP, along with its joint venture partners, is awaiting approval from the Office of the President for its applications for two blocks located in the Sulu Sea under the first conventional energy bid round in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

Mr. Carlos said the company — in talks with operator Nido Petroleum — plans to drill a new well estimated to cost around $20-30 million.

Forum Energy Limited (FEL), in which PXP holds a 99.35% controlling interest, is a company incorporated in the United Kingdom that focuses on the Philippines.

FEL has minority interests in the SC 6 and SC 14 sub-blocks offshore northwest Palawan, including a 3.21% interest in the producing Galoc Field, held through Forum Energy Philippines Corp.

“The group looks forward to commencing activities in this underexplored petroleum province, where previous studies and drilling efforts have indicated favourable geological indicators for commercial hydrocarbon discoveries,” the company said.

“We remain fully prepared to resume our exploration programs as soon as we receive formal and definitive approval from the relevant governing agencies,” PXP said

Both Hydrogen production plants, the green and blue , just refer to one being created/man made , the other being derived from Natural Gas

Blue Hydrogen is hydrogen produced from natural gas through a process called steam methane reforming.

Green Hydrogen , all other sources

Both produce Hydrogen for sale, so neither unique.........and the ref company one of several planning Hydrogen production in Pakistan

Would be far from the first drill I have been in, that has been drilled, then waited for an alternate type rig, or same to return to conduct full hole / flow testing., If time limited but TRP should still be able to produce some data on drill completion, wireline etc , zones/thickness encountered etc, then full flow testing later....GLA
