Like the Shark our MAKO has bite........9 Sep 2025 10:59
Indonesia is developing the Mako gas field to boost its domestic energy supply, with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR) directing that all production be sold to the state electricity company, PT PLN, to meet rapidly growing demand, particularly from the data center sector in Batam. The Mako field is expected to start production in 2026 and will be connected to the existing West Natuna Transportation System (WNTS) to deliver gas to Batam.
Key Developments:
Indonesia's government has prioritized domestic gas supply, with the MEMR directing all gas from the Mako field to be reserved for the domestic market.
PT PLN Energi Primer Indonesia (PLN EPI), a subsidiary of the state-owned utility PT PLN, will purchase all the gas.
The gas will be supplied to Batam, an emerging hub for data centers, which is a major driver of increased energy demand.
Gas Sales Agreement:
Conrad Asia Energy, the operator of the Mako field, is working with PLN EPI and the Indonesian upstream regulator SKK Migas to finalize a Gas Sales Agreement (GSA) for the entire output until 2037.
Infrastructure Investment
A new gas spurline will be built to connect the Mako field to the WNTS, with an estimated investment of approximately $50 million.
Rising Demand
Indonesia is experiencing strong growth in domestic gas demand, driven by its New Energy Plan and the expansion of gas-fired power plants and data centres
Strategic Importance
The Mako field, holding significant untapped reserves, is crucial for achieving Indonesia's goal of doubling gas production by 2030
Come on Conrad, get the wheels rolling.......GLA
