Don't know if this has already been mentioned but softbank today electing to list ARM on the nasdaq instead of FTSE could be interesting in terms of whether they might be thinking about THG and going private then to US exchange.

It's still a paper gain until shorts close.

Bantham, the Sunday Times got it from a different source from the betaville Friday rumour they weren't "repeating the rumour". Sunday Times also didn't even phrase it as speculation or rumour like they did with pelaton they just flat out said it.
You don't think they would have reported on monday that "THG did not send out 7am RNS to confirm story therefore not true". This would obviously be worth reporting on surely, it's not like the media is THG's friend? Not a single media piece has said the rumour must not be true because of no RNS. Are they also not aware of this takeover rule that you are?

Bantham, if it was true that it was as simple as they HAD to put out an RNS at 7am, you don't think the media would have all reported this - "THG do not confirm story therefore it wasn't true". They haven't done this, in-fact betaville who got the story from a separate source from the Sunday Times has indicated he expects to update more on this soon.

Pencil the rumour came out on betaville when sp had recovered to around 125p, it finished around 135p about 8% up from there. Intra day it was higher post-rumour but overall it wouldn't appear to have breach a 10% threshold.

It went to finish at 135p from 125p after the rumour came out...an 8% rise, I'd be surprised if they need to send out an RNS on that.

If this rule exists why has seemingly no-one been able to find out the percentage increase required to notify on a rumour, and how would one even know how much the increase was due to the rumour? On Fri the sp had already recovered to 125p before the betaville article came out.

Stockbrokerbelt, perhaps they are "meant" to do this, or it is best practice, but how strict is this "rule" really? For example it's best practice and part of the governance code to switch the chairman every 9 years however around 20% of companies exceed this.
Perhaps they will update in due course, to me the rumours are very specific, also both the times and betaville appear to have got the story from seperate sources and also the times doesn't even phrase it as a rumour or speculation just says it flat out as the article opening - "Private equity firms Advent International and Leonard Green are exploring a buyout of the beleaguered online retailer The Hut Group."

It might seem a lot to pay for example £5 (£6.85 billion mc) relative to current share price, but they may be thinking they can list the parts in a few years for £10-12 billion overall in the US.

That's good, separate sources in the know have confirmed the story to the different journalists (unless they have the same source, but he says "with his own sources".)

Look at the difference in how the Times phrased the first sentence of the two of the recent takeover/PE speculations:

"Peloton’s dwindling fortunes took a turn for the better amid speculation that Amazon, Nike and Apple are circling the upmarket fitness bike group."

"Private equity firms Advent International and Leonard Green are exploring a buyout of the beleaguered online retailer The Hut Group."

Must be difficult for Ford watching his investment increase, hope he is ok

Starting to wonder if UK investors/media are all just semi-******ed? Does seem like US private equity are the ones interested and it rose when US opens, even though that shouldn't make a difference you wouldn't think as they could buy before that.

Obviously I realize lloyds are quoted in your example though I'm not sure the standard is the same level as Sunday times. Also sunday times doesn't even discuss it as being a rumour like this standard article did for metro/lloyds

Poker that does sound a bit more vague than quoting the names of 3 private equity firms and saying one is thought to be less likely.

If pointing out that it's good that a mainstream newspaper has detailed 2-3 private equity buyers who are "exploring a buyout" is "ramping" then it's hard to see how one can ever say anything positive about a stock without "ramping".

It was way too specific to not have some truth...to me the only question is what kind of deal will be done if they did agree on one and when.

Rock you are long on a stock you say was "@ 113p on Friday for a reason". Why do so many shorts/people not in pretend to be investors then softly bash the stock. Does Ford run a course in this or something?
