That's what makes one wonder about the going private speculation...they announced the new chair etc in mid Oct and the price spiked from £2.90 to £3.50, but then it fell all the way back. I'm not sure they've mentioned the chair etc since then? By Dec the private rumours started coming up, the price probably became too tempting.

Well shopify currently has an $106.5 billion market cap so I don't feel they are quite the same situation...

I agree Hajones, though it's worth noting the first THG rumour from betaville was Dec 10th so it has been rumbling a couple of months now.

In the rumour back from July in this example he mentions an "unknown" predator, I still think its interesting with THG he and the Sunday Times named all 3 supposed predators.

I do appreciate that Goldy is honest about his positions...if this was suddenly taken over at £5 you'd have tons of new posters suddenly posting "so glad I bought 2 million shares last week". Or if it falls "so glad I sold my whole position yesterday"

Musclehead all of that would have been taken into account in their predicted growth they gave 3-4 weeks back. It's also why growth and tech stocks have been falling for 6 months. Like many a bear, you are talking like nothing negative from the macro is priced in.
People still have lockdown savings (which is part of the reason there is inflation from the money printing) therefore I think they will still by buying their protein and beauty products. The supply chain issues will eventually ease.

They were rejecting £3.9 billion private equity offers in 2018. The equivalent share price to £2.84 today. Private equity could make the same offer now for all that extra 4 years of growth and IPO/post IPO acquisitions and debt reduction.
Even if you ignored all the organic growth from the last 4 years if you just added the money they raised at IPO and post-IPO which together is around £1.67 billion to the £3.9 billion 2018 rejected offer you get £5.57 billion mc, the equivalent to a £4.05 takeover price.

Who knows...perhaps they focus more on growth potential instead of whether the CEO takes his shirt off on holiday which seems to preoccupy the UK press.
Even "the analyst" the lead bear who started this whole thing said they "only" valued the parts at £2.60.

When I say they'd be aware I didn't actually mean of the takeover rule as that would be rather comedically absurd for a pe firm to not know this rule haha but I meant they must have known about softbank buying at 596p - unless they don't even do a basic google search before visiting a potential opportunity.

That's true HeresHopin, to me the rumours were too specific to not have some truth to them and according to betaville the story was confirmed to them and the sunday times via separate sources. Betaville also seemed to indicate he would update on this again soon.
It is interesting that PE equity must surely have been aware of the 596p placing and takeover offer rule etc (it's pretty basic and open knowledge) yet they approached THG anyway.

The lack of a chairman still does make one wonder about the PE rumours...however it's hard to get around softbank though, any buyout price offer would have to be 596p until May with them involved and it's hard to see how they could suddenly not want to be involved when they have someone on the board etc.
As much as I am bullish on THG 596p would be a quite a premium on the current sp to say the least and would somewhat defeat the purpose of presumably why PE would be interested in a beaten down stock. Perhaps if there was some kind of private deal where softbank agree to not be involved and agree to sell their shares for a discount around £3 but then get a bigger piece of ingenuity as a private deal? Not even sure if that kind of thing is possible.

For all the flack Moulding gets, raising $1.05 billion in May at £5.96 has been shown to be a great move before the inflation led growth/tech decline. Even if some believe he paid too much for Cult Beauty and Bentley with the money it left with THG with around £310 million extra cash outside of these acquisitions. I imagine a lot of the other growth companies are wishing they had raised back at this time.
