twice within a few days, beer money trade working nicely, at 30% each time I only need 1 more to have pretty much doubled my stake ( high risk only £300 going in not worth risking more to me )

Absolutely I would have not started investing regularly if it was not for Trading 212

I did have some long term investments mainly due to a company sharesave scheme, but it was a buy and hold forever thing not any kind of trading

the free brokers allow you to learn the game on the cheap and no risk at all with the practice accounts which I did for about 2 month before actually using any real money ) I then started trading and added to the pot over time as I gained experience.

3 years later, £52k profit I am more than happy with T212, it has limitations and you can work around them but I am soooo glad these brokers now exist!

Yes the poor unwashed masses should just not be allowed to be trading in stocks, they should go back to betting on the greyhounds and the local scruffy football team.

I think the free share sites should be promoted more, potentially as part of the life maths courses which are rolling out through 6th from colleges ( side point, too late imho that course should be taught in secondary school) I would much rather see people investing in their futures with sensible investing decisions rather than buying tons of scratch cards. They have an important part to play even if some people just can not see it🤣

As I say just because it is of no value to you does not mean it is of no value to others.

Why should people with low funds not be investing in stocks? Within a nice tax free wrapper and using their skills to pick and choose the correct shares to increase my holdings.

It is a hell of a lot easier and less hassle than your suggestion of flipping on auction sites - which will have the tax man chasing them now too!

I'm leaving it there too. Just because a fee is reasonable to you does not mean everybody else is the same financial position. Consider yourself lucky that you are able to invest enough to be able to pay the fee's without question. The free brokers have their niche and have an important part to play. Just because they have no value to you, does not mean they have no value to other people.

If I only have £100 to invest, a £5 a month plus £8 in trade fees is no good for me is it? I'd need 8% rise to break even plus another 5% rise every single month to cover the costs - that is just not possible.

you are talking about a fast moving share there and I have stated they are no good for that.

I think back to when I was 18 and starting off working, I was able to put £50 or £100 a month away into bank account - I would have absolutely loved if the fee free brokers were around then as I would have been much much better off in being able to invest it rather than just earn bank account interest. If you are only able to invest small amounts the traditional brokers are not feasible. An my bank does still charge me £10 a trade, so there is nothing mystical about it!

the absolute whole point in the free apps is that they allow access to trading that people would not otherwise be able to afford. Why should we not allow everybody, regardless of the income, access to trading and improving their own future?

This is the typical bigoted responses I often see on these boards. Only those with lots of money should be allowed to invest and make themselves more money. It is great to see and about time that trading is now possible for the masses rather than just the self entitled elite

But the point is if you only have a few hundred to spare they are ideal.

If I invest £100 but have to pay £20 quid in fees, I have to get a return of over 20% before I actually get any profit

but on commission free even a 5% or 10% moves gives me a profit so who cares if I lose a little on the spread.

if you have thousands to invest great got with a paid broker

but if you have hundreds it is not possible to get started investing on a traditional broker. There is a place for both and I use both.

Was a big gap up on open - and it tumbled fast in the first 30 min, so you would have had to be lucky to sell anywhere near that high anyway mischief, even if you had been at your terminal

but if you ignore all the red and just look at the actual current SP - it is still up on yesterday and in a nice upward trend for the last 2 weeks.

Good chance it was just a load of profit takers getting out as quick as they could, SP has moved to fill that gap as it often does. Good chance it will move back up in a more sensible manner as the day goes on.....🤞🏻🤞🏻
