I don't think people really get mining. Most of what BTC miners make needs to be invested in yet more machinery just to get a decent and fair hash distribution in the world mining pool. It's a vicious circle and some say it is wasteful , but money talks and there is 120 years of mining left with BTC.
With regards to ARB, PW could of used the BTC coins in cold storgae but since we all know that is going to hit $1m a coin so the placing was a necessary boost just for ARB to stay even more competitive this year
