Rosgeology specialists carried out field work in the Murmansk region. According to their forecasts, in the Monchegorsk ore region there were twice as many nickel and platinum group metals.
- According to preliminary estimates, the reserves of nickel here are 1.6 million tons, copper - 1.18 million tons, and platinum group metals - 724 tons. An area of ??over 11 square kilometers was studied, TASS reported, citing the press service of Rosgeologia.
It turned out that in the summer, experts discovered a new place with deposits of platinum group metals in the area of ??the Poaz mountain range in Monchegorsk. The accuracy of geological forecasts has yet to be assessed, as well as expert confirmation of the estimated resources has yet to be passed. But if the expectations of the geologists are correct, then this will be a good contribution to the polar region.
Research has now begun on platinum-bearing reefs in the southern part of the ore region. Completion of work under the state contract is scheduled for 2020.
