The 2022-23 global mpox outbreak happened despite repeated calls from African researchers for increased global investment in diagnostic, therapeutic and infection prevention tools for mpox.

The WHO has now declared the current upsurge of mpox in central Africa a public health emergency of international concern.

This is the highest alert level for events that constitute a public health risk to other countries and requires a coordinated international response.

NCYt are ready to help here and the global funding package from GAVI of $500mil should hopefully bring some money our way! Perhaps more if it can’t be nipped in the bud.

Perhaps low atm but our tests can be used globally, aka straight to Africa where it is far from low

So NCYT are ready and good to go, this should rally a lot further particularly if it spreads. We know it’s now in Europe so all bets are off when it starts to spread which it inevitably will! Assume they used a plane to travel back from Africa, anyone in close contact has a fair chance of contracting. Not great news for anyone who falls ill but for ncyt holders it could be pretty lucrative.
