self isolation for over 70's16 Mar 2020 01:04
As per previous, I'm not far from 70 but think I will give it a miss and stay 69 - women do it, so can I. I'm not so much bothered by the suggestion as disputing the logic. The 70s are the vulnerable group, no more spreaders of the virus than anyone else. If they mix freely they (include me for arguments sake - my decision) are more likely to catch CV and die from it. Free up housing, reduce pressure on NHS, save on pensions/benefits, less smelly people on public transport, money handed down to children to boost the economy - what's not to like? So why on earth self isolate those over 70s who do not wish it, for no gain. The majority of the population are under 70 so they are more likely to be spreading the virus - self isolate them! My argument for impeding the spread of the virus is more valid than yours but equally as stupid. Twenty people per day die in UK from specifically alcohol related reasons, fifteen per day, tragically, from suicide, five per day from traffic accidents. Why no great call for the abolition of alcoholic products and motorised transport? If you want to live in the modern world then take what comes with it, if it includes a burgeoning and transient population and all that they carry. Isolation - good luck with that one!
