Hi Oxo. My MP isn't the Sandancer one, I'm at the very southern end of the 9th June 1862 constituency. Think she's near Communist and having ignored me three times already, I can't see her being of any help.
To be honest, I can't see the BOD's decision being reversed. Their cojones are firmly in the hands of the government via the PRA and the best we could hope for would be weasel words and a vague 'wait and see what happens.'
I've also had my dividend from Aviva 'withdrawn' with a promise to look at the situation later in the year, so I'm doubly unhappy. The BODs have the right to do as they have done and it will be said that it was their decision despite the excessive 'nudging' from high places and all we are left with is a vote for their re-election or otherwise at the AGM. I'm as angry as anyone and it hurts me financially but unlike with HSBC, I don't think our protests have any legs IMHO.
I also fear that the markets will head south again as realisation of the full economic impact of CV19 hits. Maybe there is some prudence in their actions. I couldn't have written this a few days ago, I was too livid but as my daughter is working on the 'front line' at a nearby hospital, my worries are so much less about my livelihood than about hers.

Why are huge tranches of informative and relative posts disappearing today? There appears to be much too much censorship across all of LSE these days.

Unfortunately not, though a very much reduced majority. There are some in the NE who still haven't seen the light.

Glad you had a response from the HOL. They aren't as bad as some make out. Last year I sent 3 emails to my local MP asking why she voted against the wishes of her constituents re B****t and never had a response. Perhaps she was too busy sitting as she did on the Parliamentary Standards Committee.

JerrySpaniel - In a fairly flat year (like we used to have ) the SP of a company would rise again after the ex.div drop, to what it had been prior to that, because of the profits earned during the year enabling it to pay another dividend and on and on again! If you thinking of using up capital as if it were income you're either not in for the long term (investing) or you're short terming (gambling) or a little confused!

It wasn't just the Government (Taxpayers) as any really long term holders here will have participated in the rights issues at the time. The Government (Taxpayers) have already had their payback but us LTHs are being told to pay up again! Doubt if we will ever see the 2019 Dividend. Some other Govt sponsored excuse will be found not to pay it.

It is suggested that from 1st April Russia will stop buying gold and look to sell some of it's gold reserves.

SC - Glad you admit to lying about what the government had said.
Do you honestly think that it would have been a better course of action to join in a procurement process with an organisation which has spent three and a half years threatening the UK with denial of food, medical supplies including drugs, airspace, access to financial markets, criminal and security intelligence and access to the EU markets with no knowledge of the tendering process, timescale or distribution of goods purchased if indeed any were. Or would it be better to be in control of such process which, it is reasonable to assume, the result of our recent General Election indicated the population of UK wanted the Government to do.
It's odd that you claim bias toward honest Government when lying yourself.
I doubt if any Government will 'sort Covid out.' Science may do that but in the meantime Government can only manage it's effects as best as possible in a fluid environment.

At close of play Tuesday our SP was 21.2% ahead of SLA's. Now they're almost neck and neck! Plus SLA have had a broker downgrade! Puzzling.

Well said bardill. So many have gone from 'it's only flu for heaven's sake' to 'Boris, you aren't doing enough, people are out and about trying to kill us all.' Shame there isn't a vaccine to combat a lack of common sense. So many saints, so many sinners, so many both.
