1. The strategy of the Bank is to grow its retail presence and branch network.
2. This has made the expenses and operations of the Bank at the very top end of its peers.
3. Digital Banks with none of the expenses and cost of running shiny branches are growing at an amazing and far faster rate
Conclusion - the strategy isn't working. The Bank is not profitable. Compared to peers in the Banking sector, there are better bets as an investor. So until there is a radical shift in the strategy and a direction that the city can fully get behind, it is very unlikely to go anywhere.
Customer Experience is great but whats the point if as a business, the cost to serve is too high to yield a decent return.
