Just out of interest, does anyone think the originator knows that their drug has been repurposed yet?

Are these statements tangible to the extent that Anne has already established a dialogue with both the originator and a generic competitor?

Business relationships are best built on a basis of trust. If you go to the originator first then surely you have a better chance of building a positive relationship than you would if you if were schmoozing the competition at the same time (in which case they might feel threatened). Therefore if Anne is already talking to generics then either she's either had a negative response from the originator or she's decided to take the risk and pressurise both sides.

If she's not yet talking to either then its all still intangible and we are all making assumptions.

Like I said earlier, I wonder if there were attempts or desires to encourage potential partners to face off at around the time of the leak. Leading to a souring of relationships with those prospective partners and the eventual disintegration of the board.

I didn't say it was a bad thing. I said it was extremely unlikely for us to have two parties interested in the same product given our current shareprice and failure to secure anything after the Times leak. If we got one interested party then I would have thought it more cost effective to take us out rather than partner a deal in the hundreds of millions (which is what the Times leak suggested was on the cards). If such partners can afford not to rush then it suggests they have no fear of competition.

I could go for an NXP002 vs NXP004 clash of interests though. Perhaps that is why Anne is keen to highlight that testing for both products is now underway.

Can't say I'd mind seeing Team Tapolczay scrabbling to get back into the action....especially if they lost!

Just to answer my own question.

The only way I can think of avoiding a cheap takeout is to have at least two parties who want the product and are prepared to compete on price. Trying to bring that about could be very tricky as it could be very easy to alienate all interested parties if you are seen to be fuelling a bid war.

I wonder if that kind of strategy has been employed before and was responsible for the collapse of previous Asian discussions.

I'm not sure how much leverage we would realistically have at our current valuation. Any designs we had for striking a deal worth 100's of millions has probably withered along with share price from it's high in 2019.

We could probably be bought out for twice today's bid if a large partner became suddenly interested. Anne would have to stoke the company valuation up to a level where striking a deal would be less costly that just buying the IP with a takeout. How is that going to happen now?

If they have no lab then where does Alex continue to work?

Has he gone too but hasn't had mention because he's not on the board?

I hasten to add that I don't believe that we've been lied to under the current regime, so far.

It was welcome. The previous RNS had me wondering (for the 3rd time after Gooding and Blackwell) if we were on the verge of collapse. Hopefully that is now not the case.

Today poured cold water on that, hence their disappointment and departure at a probable loss.

It didn't sound from the wording that all hope was lost but they are equally unlikely to announce failure. So no news isn't necessarily good news with regards to the most prominent partner.

However, we were led to believe that those Asian talks involved multiple partners, so may something could be salvaged with one of the others, given enough time.

As Soup has already pointed out, we seem to be acquiring people with previous links to Takeda. Perhaps that could eventually turn out to be a little more than just coincidence

I remember this from the placing RNS:

"NXP002 Asia discussions : The Board is disappointed that previous business development activities in Asia have not reached a positive conclusion. A new business development consultant has been engaged to assess the viability of legacy discussions coming to a successful conclusion in the near to medium term"

It didn't sound from that as if things were entirely stone cold dead so I wonder what conclusions new business development consultant came too? It's been a few months now.

I think our expectations for financial reward from Oxilio have now been realistically tempered through our discussions here.

It's more symbolic now. Getting the deal finalised will still be a big win as it shows that our products hold potential for wider uses beyond those originally intended...and that they can be successfully partnered.

Any effort to steady the ship by letting us know things are still on course despite the recent news is most welcome at this time.

Hopefully an Oxilio agreement is not too far off
