Lokiloo, the state of the country is not down to a few middle class people not paying their taxes on 'side money'. It's down to a poorly run government, bad foreign policy, corrupt MP's with even more corrupt rich friends (when was the last time Amazon, Google, etc paid UK taxes? and saying they provide employment is a lazy line from their enablers.) The UK has more than enough money to fix all of the issues, the government does not want to fix them.

They waste £billions on schemes without consultations that fail (HS2??).

If the UK had a proper three tier tax system maybe things would work better? (Swiss system works quite well in that regard)

@molatavkid, the country would be better off if they ran it as a business and had accountability, which they don't.

If they fired anyone that mis-spent and not just gave them a new title in another department the UK would be very strong (as would all countries) but government being corrupt and inept and all MP's show utter contempt for the voting sheep, nothing will change.

@Badland, the cost of solar panels are not the problem , it's the installation. Solar panels are also only about 70% efficient, which means that only 70% of the surface area can capture and convert into electricity (probably less than that in truth).

We were told that as more people bought the cheaper they would get (where have we heard that before?), well when we bought our house we were quoted @42k and as the roof have various pitches not that great for our use, anyway that was 5 years ago, out of curiosity I checked again this year... 78k!!! That would take me about 20years to pay that back and that does not cover all of our usage.

SMR is that way to go. As it happens we live about 35km from a nuclear power station. So we actually fall well within the 'fall out' radius.
