Hi tricky, correct spelling. The bear pit is still there, Bern gets it's name because of the bears and it's association to them, the Canton (county) flag is a bear. Last time we were there was in 2019, we had a picnic along the river Aare by the old city,while we waited for the US embassy to process docs. The river has a fantastic colour to it, turquoise, mostly due to the snowmelt and algae.
If you ever see a Toblerone bar, on the wrapper is an image of a mountain, look carefully and you will see a bear climbing it.
Our kids also discovered the unsavoury part of city life, someone was spiking himself in broad daylight along the path by the river. That took some explaining...

Skindle, you are not wrong there. Most are not wealthy here, cost of living is high but sometimes you get what you pay for. That's how we view it, quite, clean and with minimal government interference.
