Unfortunately this has been holding this pattern for a couple of weeks now, almost as if it's waiting to break out.
But as Skindle pointed out, the last time earnings were announced it did break out... south bound!!
I am equally dismayed but I think it has a lot to do with the yanks who keep dancing around whether they will have a recession or not this year. They should just admit that they are in one and move on, makes no difference at this point.
And raising interest rates has done diddly squat to inflation rates.
Time to adjust to this inflation rate and count it as the new 2% inflation. Prices are not going down, people will not take pay cuts and so raising interest rates will do nothing to cause a reverse of what has already happened.

That's total liabilities, including global property holdings, not 'debt' as money owned from borrowing.
If you look at easyjet, which is a much smaller operation they have total liabilities of over 10billion euros.
And if you are worried about that debt, investing is not for you as most companies and people have debt of some kind.
Some one long ago taught me a valuable lesson. He said, "if you owe the bank $100k, you will have sleepless nights, if you owe the bank $1m, the bank will have sleepless nights".
I have lived by that for as long as I heard it, either owe nothing or go all in.
I currently enjoy owing nothing.

Debt for IAG is @10.4 billion euros as of now, not sure that takes into account the added debt for Europa that they just bought.

Skindle, I agree. Seems that when positive figures are reported the SP tanks, but this seems a trend I see more and more, even with tech like Apple. Completely counter intuitive.
The markets lie a company reports mediocre numbers.
I think the only time in recent history where positive results pushed sp to rise was RR.

Latest news from the Saudis is that they want the price of oil to be @$100 /barrel, that is why they claim they cut production...

Skindle, because if they did that it would lower fuel prices for everyone.
The US only cares about it's own interests, despite telling everyone something else.
The Americans have a meltdown when they have to pay more than $4.00 per gallon for fuel, yet we pay double that.
Also, the 'cut in production' will not have any major impact, it is to drive the price of oil up through sentiment and fear.
The US benefits from that model too.
That is why the call it the oil cartel, a monopoly, much like the Columbian drug cartels, fix a price and everyone pays more.
The US subsidizes their fuel to their people, couple that with super low fuel duty.

Agree with MGMv12, you need debt to offset tax liabilities, just normal business practice and the markets know that.
It would be a problem if IAG had no cash reserves and a large debt, that would be a real issue.

You are right, last few weeks were turbulent to say the least. The actual weather here though is still very turbulent, 40kph winds with hail and the sideways rain with sun, all on the same afternoon.
I can imagine if you were to instruct a English language course over there, a lot of Russians speaking with a Yorkshire accent will sound confusing if they visited the UK...
We will have to wait until late May possibly June to drive up through the passes as some are still closed due to heavy late snow. Can't wait. Even tempted at buying a motorcycle again... but most likely not, sad to say. I just look at them now.

I personally don't think anyone should pay attention to these 'experts'.
All in one sentence he says he should buy and then not.
He is concerned about dividends returning or not.
Don't buy based on a poxy 2-3% dividend, many other companies out there offer better dividends if that's your goal.
This sp can jump 5% in one day, that is better than a whole year's worth of divi.
And most of all, a company can adjust the divi, or withdraw it completely.
I am invested in a company that returns 4% divi, it was higher.
No point looking for a annual return of 3-4% if the stock tanks 30%, you have bigger problems...

You are not wrong there. What a week or two, unfortunately I believe we are not done yet...
However, the illusion of 'nothing to see here' cast far and wide by all the central banks would suggest a sh*tstorm is going to land soon.
I wonder why people just don't trust governments? hhmm.
I would imagine a Russian speaker trying to get their ear around some of the dialects of the UK would be interesting for sure.
As for fishing, I hope you enjoy it, personally not my thing, unless sea fishing off the Florida coast which I did once, that was seriously hard.
