Hi Livinthedream. Do you know what the breakeven is for the Elk assets we bought from Teck? Given the outlook for steelmaking coal and high cost environment in Canada, $6.9bn felt steep back then and feels even steeper now.

Whilst 2024 was volatile, coal wasn't subdued all year and yet we still posted a loss. 2025 YTD realised prices will be even lower, so unless there's a demand uptick from some mega China stimulus or copper and trading income go parabolic, I wouldn't be surprised if Glenda reported another loss.

Here's to making coal great again! Which reminds me of an old Trump clip where he says: "I love big, beautiful coal miners from West Virginia." He doesn't talk about them anymore though...

1) Glencore's slide is strongly correlated with the collapse in coal prices; although Trump tariffs, cost pressures and China's economic malaise are also key drivers. Whether you accept it or not, 2024's net loss was primarily driven by lower coal prices.

2) Glencore clearly overpaid for Teck and the timing was terrible. If we were NYSE-listed, then shareholders would have made Nagle and co walk the plank. But as it's the FTSE, our sleepy pension fund investors just sit idly by as they continue to collect wonga.

3) Dark_Knight, you post the same mumbo jumbo on every board I see you on: Fresnillo, Harbour, Hochschild etc. You don't research a company properly (or at all), you buy too high and average down too quickly. Then start crying about manipulation when the stock slides even more.

You've said "copper is 42%" multiple times, but 42% of what? Revenue? EBITDA? EBIT? Net income? Is this copper mining or copper trading or both? Do you even know the difference?

For the record, copper mining was only 26% of 2024's group EBITDA ($3.8bn versus $14.4bn). So again, why the obsession with daily copper prices versus Glencore share price? You didn't buy a copper miner...Coal actually contributed a greater % to EBITDA than copper in 2024.

If you'd read any of Glencore's annual reports, then you wouldn't keep crying manipulation and asking why Glencore isn't tracking copper up. But given your writing skills are comparable to that of a 10-year old , I suspect that you've never even read an annual report...

As 273 pages is well beyond your capabilities, I'll give you a clue...If Glencore is the dominant copper miner that you thought it was before you clicked "BUY", then why did it post a loss last year?

1) FTSE stocks are well known to often drop more than the divi amount when they go ex...They're sometimes bid up into the close the day before, people sell and then buy back in the following day after the drop. Seen it for years with BATS, BP, VOD, LGEN etc.

2) You forgot the addition of the special divi this year at c32p - but if PMs remain buoyant and insiders know Q1 production is good, then the share price ought to recover well from the initial ex-divi drop. We'll see...

Shoop you're looking at old data, Glencore has fallen down the pecking order. Zijin Mining is the 4th largest producer now, Southern Copper is 5th and Glencore 6th.

Not true either - Harbour, BP etc. have seen increased volume lately.

TLW trailing average volume isn't actually much lower than it was last year, it's just that the shares are now worth less than half what they used to be.

At 4 million average volume and a 13-14p share price, that isn't necessarily true...There's only half a million quid's worth changing hands each day recently.
