Well historically, it was always a trading stock and not a long-term investment.

IPO'd at 520p but went to c100p shortly after, then nearly hit 2000p in 3 different years, returned to 500s before hitting 13 quid during covid, then collapsed again to 435p, which was even lower than March 2020 lows, before now returning to 1000p. Phew!

But gold's incredible run since early 2024 has (I think) changed the case from exclusively trading to largely an investment one.
