Woodside Keeps Options Open for Greater Sunrise Gas Project off the Coast of Timor-Leste.
Woodside, Timor GAP's partner in the Sunrise Joint Venture, reaffirmed its open stance regarding the development options for the Greater Sunrise gas project, located about 140 km south of the coast of Timor-Leste.
Meg O'Neill, Woodside's CEO, cited by the oil and gas industry specialized information platform
Upstream, acknowledged that the company "does not have a preferred concept" for Greater Sunrise. "We are open," she added, noting that only "figuring out what is the best way to move forward with development is necessary, so the conceptual study work is continuing." O'Neill further emphasized that "the concept study is to ensure that all involved - the joint venture companies, the Timorese government, and the Australian government... all are working from a common set of facts, and then we can use those common facts to support a decision on the best way to develop this asset." Since April, the British company Wood has been leading an independent conceptual study for Greater Sunrise, aiming to identify the most advantageous development solution for all involved parties. This study, whose conclusion is scheduled for the end of the year, evaluates options for engineering, technology, financing, and commercial structures, as well as analyzing fiscal, environmental, health, and safety, and socioeconomic factors. The development of Greater Sunrise and the coming of the pipeline to Timor-Leste's south coast are national priorities, essential for the country's future economic growth and development. The Government will continue to evaluate the best strategies to develop the project, ensuring that it proceeds sustainably and brings significant benefits to the nation and the region.
