The National Procurement Commission (CNA), has launched an international competition in the short term to find constructors for the Tasi-Mane Project on the southern coast. In this regard, the Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Francisco Monteiro, and the Minister of Planning and Strategic Investment, Gastão de Sousa, have submitted a request for expenditure authorization according to the Infrastructure Fund rule, as well as procurement authorization for projects with a value exceeding $10 million to be approved by the Council of Ministers. Therefore, the Government has authorized
$40,500,000 for the Tasi-Mane Project, with $36 million allocated to two projects, Suai Supply Base and the highway. For the highway project, it will be divided into three sections from Zumalai to Betanu, Betanu to Wedaberek, and Wedaberek to Natarbora.
"In the short term, an international competition will be launched to look for contractors to carry out the construction," Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Francisco Monteiro, stated in an exclusive interview at the TATOLI, Faról studio.
According to cost estimates for the Suai Supply Base project and its highway, the project will cost over $10 million. "Our innovative and creative modality is unique. The important development component for the Tasi Mane Project for the Suai Supply Base and this highway, its initial intention is to support the petroleum sector, as well as mining. At some point in the future, this will also be an alternative economic center, for example in the northern part as we say in Dili extending to various districts such as Maliana, Baucau as economic activity centers. In the South Coast, this corridor will be a hub for activities not only oil-related but for the overall economy," he said. For the Suai Supply Base infrastructure, some initial work has already begun, and the intention of the project itself is to become a manufacturing center for the petroleum sector and eventually extend to minerals and others. The authorities said that on the south coast will become the center for the Greater Sunrise development, and later the Government decided that Suai will become the center for the logistics base development. Its progress was slow, but eventually everything rose gradually and competently working very well because the airport has been completed, the first session of the highway has been completed up to Zumalai. "We can now count on infrastructure there, because Suai is now starting to have urban terms. People are starting to put their private investment in guest houses, small hotels, their future will involve major private investments," he noted.
