Jadestone Energy announces that the Valaris 247 rig is now on contract to drill the Skua-11ST well offshore Australia, the main activity in this year's capital program.

The Skua-11ST program is expected to take c.60 days to complete, with an expected initial oil rate of c.3,500 bbls/d when brought onstream and extending the economic life of the Montara field. Sorry, Howler, (not Howey). More shares is not going to work, has been ruled out and I don’t see a U turn especially after the last debacle. PLNG are still involved in arranging a deal. We must hope they can close this deal and it’s a good one. Certainly going the distance. Andy Butler along with Timor Gap want this to happen and will make it happen. We are too far down the line.

Howey, training a workforce with a school of petroleum engineers ready and waiting and Bayu Undan experience should not be a problem. Inpex are very much interested and have opened a new office in TL. Shell were looking for oil. They discovered gas and left. China doesn’t appear to want to develop Greater Sunrise but might build the infrastructure. Others are out there but Woodside are in the driving seat and continue to procrastinate. I agree but every pathetic rise in the share price is wiped out within minutes. Possibly the strategy of continually updating shareholders with minutiae on operational matters complete with expected delivery has raised expectations and backfired share price wise. Maybe AB has changed tack and holding back before delivering some real share price moving news. As the article says. Temporary spikes feeding traders is best avoided and a period of silence might be what we need. Shareholders getting addicted to constant updates saying nothing new has not worked.

why do some ceos remain silent as the share price tank?

1. you are completely at the mercy of external factors outside of your control. will there be a jv? depends on appetite of the majors. in many cases, there is no point in conducting interviews with ceos who are simply at a dangerous inflection point where the junior actually has limited control over what happens next. they can’t give concrete answers, so the interview sees the share price drop. this is sub-optimal.

2. non-disclosure agreements (ndas) are signed, and the company is not free to expand on negotiations/grant applications/legal issues or whatever. they may not even be able to say that negotiations are ongoing. this is far more common than many investors realise and any investor engagement at this point will either be severely limited or feel a bit dishonest.

3. you have a long-term timeline with sp**** news in-between. if you engage in marketing the assets you have, the share price will briefly spike and thereafter fall back once you stop. this is fairly pointless; you need consistent news flow and simply repeating the same things across multiple outlets is not going to change market dynamics. if you have nothing to say or add, you may not wish to. all this does is encourage day traders to use your ticker as a means to make profit while leaving long-term investors holding the bag.

4. management has seen traders short the company into oblivion and want to enjoy watching them burn. a significant period of silence followed by one quality rns can have the very satisfying effect of sending shorters into oblivion whilst simultaneously sending shareholders higher. an intraday rns is even better for added effect.

5. management teams often have a good reason for keeping quiet, even if investors don't like the share price movement that results. marketing only works at the right points in an investment timeline - and sometimes for reasons investors are not are not privy to, it’s best to keep quiet. even if the silent treatment is psychological torture.
