While Matt Hanc0ck was answering questions in the Commons today he stated that currently 100,000 of the daily test's were prioritised for care homes . That figure is a massive chunk out of the daily testing capacity and shows how worried they are about the virus taking hold again in this sector . The sooner the government announce a rapid testing solution for care homes the better it will be for all involved and it will allow the larger labs to concentrate on testing more of the general population.

Looking through available information there are 1257 hospital's in the UK and only 105 have on site pathology services. Surely it would be better to roll out Hot Labs at more hospital's like the six that were announced in Wales recently .These are equipped with rapid testing equipment and cut out the need to send the test elsewhere for processing.

B2HS2L, Novacyt already produce a Genesig Plex kit which test's for Flu A ,Flu B + RSV and retails for £11.76 a test .The Winterplex test seems like an updated version of this with the 2 gene covid19 test added to it , correct me if I'm wrong . Could the price possibly in the low to mid teens?

Qiagen originally received funding from the US Department of Health and Human Services to develop the Qiastat-dx test for multiple pathogen's and covid19.

The test cartridge can only be used on the Qiastat-dx analyser which processes one cartridge at a time , where as the Novacyt Winterplex test can be used on any open PCR testing platform and the Q32 as mentioned in the rns . The test cartridges retail for $738 for a pack of 6 and the test machine's and add on modules are expensive too.

A couple of months ago it was reported that the government intended to open several more of the large lighthouse labs. The lab in Newport appears to be the first of these and the next one it seems is opening in Loughborough at the end of this month with a targeted throughput of 50,000 tests a day.

Testing of Covid 19 samples has to be done in a setting that operates at level 2 bio security levels .

I wonder if Novacyt have submitted the Winterplex for evaluation by the FDA .The original covid19 test took around 5/6 week's for approval earlier this year, but at the time the US were concentrating on developing their own test's which seemed to be slowing things down.

No good trying to dumb down testing , asymptomatic people carry the same viral load as symptomatic's.
