RE: Liverpool6 Nov 2020 16:02
Wilson63 , I found a bit more info about the testing on the Liverpool City Council website. People with covid19 symptoms are required to make an appointment at designated sites for positive cases and they will we tested with the lft's. Those without any symptoms have to make appointments at a different set of sites where they have a nasal swab test which is then sent for analysis by PCR. Apparently there is a daily capacity of 50,000 to 60,000 lft's, 17,500 PCR swab test's and 5,000 home test kit's. Going off the latest figures there are 300 positive covid19 cases per 100,000 people in Liverpool, so in the total population of 500,000 you could be looking at somewhere in the region of 1,500 positive cases .Even if you quadruple this number including those with cold's that's only 6,0000 people who need to go a testing site for a lateral flow test , everybody else will go for a swab PCR test .Correct me if I'm wrong with my understanding of this , but to me the bulk of testing will be PCR. Have a look through this questions and answers link for details of testing, sorry no detail's of the supplier's.
