I took a look at the advertisement for a clinical research director.The wording is very similar to the one looking for a clinical trials director at the Blizzard Institute last December. However the job description now talks of a global role .
Two sentences are:-
Devise and deliver clinical development plans for global studies and work closely with clinical project teams and regulatory colleagues.
Manage execution of clinical plans and protocols globally.
This could all be related to tracking variant's and assisting other countries.

Monitoring and testing what flows underneath those potholes in the sewer pipes looks like it will be a big source of information towards the future managing of this pandemic and future viral outbreak's. Interesting comments in the parliament post blog about how waste water testing is used in some parts of the world to see what illegal drugs are being used in a certain area .The SAGE link mentions there being a workshop with academic and industry partners to discuss new technology for testing the samples on site .

The big question is are Novacyt involved. Kaeran posted a link in the week showing that Primer Design had been working with a pilot study. More research needed.

I posted yesterday that there is a recruitment campaign currently taking place across the seven NHS England genomic sequencing hubs .These jobs are for staff to process and sequence positive covid19 samples and are initially on one year contract's.It seems that extra capacity is being put in place to coincide with the opening up of international travel , which we all understand will increase the likelihood of variant's being brought into the country.
The UK GOV website for validated test's was last updated on May 4th and doesn't show the new variant test's as yet . However if you look further down the page it does show four test's in the final stages of validation . Should be updated soon.

B2HS2L, I've read several articles related to surge testing that seem to imply the standard PCR test's are done on site and any positive samples are being sent on to the laboratories .What I have found out is the NHS has seven genomic hubs to cover England .

These were originally set up in 2018 and throughout April there has been a recruitment drive across these sites for biomedical scientist's etc. They are on one year contract's and their roles are to receive positive covid19 samples ,process and sequence them .It appears that the covid19 sequencing section in these lab's is possibly being set up to provide support to surge testing for variant's and the NHS. ShaunP, the point I was making related to when the lft might be launched ,i e sooner rather than the second half of June The bus you used in your analogy regarding contract's has to call at Porton Down on route .Quite often they go through the gates and disappear for week's. Always good to have other option's. After last week's generous donation I see UNICEF and the World Health Organisation as good candidates for contract's if the test meet their standard's and requirements. Currently the World Health Organisation are looking to procure 900 million rapid antigen and molecular test's this year .

Looking at the expression of interest notice for the supply of rapid covid19 antigen test's to UNAMI in Iraq I see the closing date is tomorrow 12/05/21 .The next stage should see UNAMI evaluate the list of companies that have registered an interest and contact those that they want to tender for a contract . The launch of Novacyts LFt must be really close to enable them to be in a position to bid for a contract .

It's worth noting that yesterday's figures for Pillar 1 NHS pcr testing was 110,000 the highest yet . All these people that are finally starting to get their operation's receive a PCR test and patient facing staff receive one once a week .We were told the NHS had sufficient PROmate test's for any near patient testing requirements. However plenty of these test's are still done in the larger lab's using the standard covid test's. There should be plenty of work for Novacyts sales team to target in that area.

ak_gabba, thanks for the link . From what I can see it looks very much like the payment for lab facilities on the top line could well be for running the care homes clinical trial at the Blizzard Institute. This started late July and ran till late September-early October.
